I have to hand it to all of you who have children around AND are able to sew. I have tried a few times to sit and sew while my 4yr old GS is here and it is IMPOSSIBLE! I don't know how any of you do it without tying them up and taping their little mouths shut (just kidding, honestly). But huge kudos to all of you who can accomplish something (or anything at all) with children. My house looks like a tornado and a tsunami hit it!!! But it's been a blast.

Laura,

There are days when I can get nothing done. I have 4 kids 13, 7, 4 and 3. My house always looks as if a tornado has come through. The key to getting anything done while you sew is to have things nearby for them to do. The kids computer is in my sewing/craft room right where I can spin in my sewing chair and reach(so I don't have to get up to help them with it). If I want to sew I always have this computer on with an educational game for preschoolers running. They come in to bug me and instead they find something bright and colorful on the computer. Also having a basket of scraps for them to dig into helps keep them occupied (this is a rather messy option as the scraps end up everywhere including the dogs water bowl). But they do have a lot of fun and let me get some sewing done. I also give them jobs realted to sewing. My three year old is my presser foot "lifter upper and lifter downer"(his own words). My new embroidery machine beeps when the foot is up and he hears it and comes running. It takes a lot of patience to sew with the little ones around and I am not ashamed to admit that I am looking forward to the day when they are all in school and I can sew in peace. :bluewink:
