Let's not let this go out of style!
I'll go first. Yesterday, while tidying for New Year's Eve company, I found a list of phone numbres that I had been missing for almost a month. They are moms of my daughter's ballet friends, and I knew that she wouldn't be in the same class as the others any longer, so I really needed their contact info. I started off the new year by sending them all an email w/ good cheer and an invitation to make a play date soon. Happy New Year, everyone!

My 4 yr old GS asked me if I was coming home with him today when we put the family on the plane, when I said no, he started to cry, Gramma, I want to stay with you. Just about broke my heart, but what a special way to feel. Grandkids are the BEST!

Me too Mary. My hubby went back to work today. I enjoyed having him home for the past week, but now I can finally spend some time in my sewing room before I have to go back to work.

I had a great day yesterday! Took down the xmas decorations, moved boxes of paperwork from the spare room closet to the attic in the garage, reorganized a lot of clothing blanks to be dyed, put 2005 paperwork in a box and got new files ready for this year... I love getting a good start on the year! Hope it's great for all of you!

Those are good bits of news, all! Had a great day: AM reading to my daughter, PM sewing while she was in preschool, took her to the local farm to play afterward, then home for hot cocoa to take off the chill before dinner. :)

Renovations at dad's place are coming along nicely. We'll be painting when I go visit in February. I am looking forward to moving and am doing so with open arms.

Hi All!

I haven't posted for a long time but I thought I would share some good news after only having troublesome times for the last couple of years.

Daughter just signed up for more college classes for this semester and was awarded enough financial aid to cover tuition and books. She is studying to be a vet but had to transfer back here from Ohio State Univ. because of finances and family problems here last year. She will be transfering back to OSU in the fall. Everything is looking good.

Son just made Eagle Scout. He had til January 21 to finish and he did it!!!! He was also accepted into the Order of Arrow from scouts. These are 2 very high honors. We are proud of him.

Getting my life straightened out again after some big road bumps of life. Hubby and I just celebrated our 25th anniversary in November.

I hope this year is good to everyone, it is starting out great for us.

Well I gotta brag a little.
My younger daughter just got a job offer from a law firm in New York. They usually hire experienced attorneys but the judge she works for now recommended her and they decided to talk to her.
She said they seem to intend to bring her up fast and have her in a court room soon.
They do mass tort cases that get a lot of national attention.
She applied because she thought her judge (she's a city court attorney) was getting a promotion and she would be out of work. She walked 60 blocks to the first interview because of the transport strike. When she got back to the court house she found out her judge isn't getting the promotion until next year so she really didn't need -- or even want the job yet.
But it's the kind of work she really wants to do -- court room litigation and they offered her more than one and a half times as much as she makes for the city.
She called with the news last evening when she was on the ferry home to Staten Island. She was so excited and I'm so happy for her.

Dede, how is your Dad, are you moving in with him?

My good news is I spoke with Joanne today. She is still quite ill but recovering. Her voice is stronger but she has a lot of pain to deal with. I was so happy to hear her voice. Jo is home once again but can't sit, stand or lay down for long periods of time.

I just read two threads in a row here where everyone is complaining.
Well, I had a very good day yesterday. Nothing special happened but it was a good day.
I was able to shuffle my work schedule so that I got my routine stuff done around an interview with a librarian. A librarian sounds dull but he was such a great guy I really enjoyed it.
I even had time to run to Hancocks. Last time I was there I decided to pick up some beautiful yarn and crochet a shawl. I haven't crocheted in years (decades?). I bought three balls of yarn and got home and realized I need four so I went back yesterday to get the other ball. It was the last one.
I think I'll get a contrasting color and finish off with some lace around the edges.
What a lovely day -- I spent the evening with my hook and remembered why I used to love to crochet.
Now that's not spectacular news but it beats the misery of those other two threads .

I agree Dorothy. I didn't want to sound smug and post that I really have nothing to complain about but a lot to be thankful for. I do have a feeling of being burned out right now from all the sewing I did for our church Christmas musical but I know that it will pass but in the meantime, I'm crocheting, doing a little knitting, a little sewing room reorganization, etc. which keeps me from getting a head full of negative cobwebs going on. My DH is so supportive and hugs me and tells me that my burnout will pass and I'll be spending countless hours in there again before long sewing and quilting my little heart out. and hey, on the more positive side, it's sunny here and going to hit 60 degrees today. :bluewink:

Just got back from school open day/evening and I'm pooped! Had a fabulous time in the lab with an aspergers lad who helped me walk my stick insects over our visitors - he was a star! I don't think we have ever had so much fun together. However - that glass of wine and bag of Doritos is calling me....

Well I have good news today after yesterday's bad. They let my hubby come home last night and released him to go back to work. He had one more test run today but so far they have found nothing bad. But they did put him on the old aspirin a day thing and something for his cholesterol. So now I have to get on him about eating better. I only feed him low cholesterol stuff for dinner but I have no control over those work lunches.
So there is one problem off my list.
My daughters new grading period starts on Monday, so she will have a clean slate to start with.
There's another worry off the list.
I find it funny that yesterday I looked at my life and all that was wrong with it and today I look and see what good can come from it.
OH and more good news. My darling little boy has decided that he is ready to wear big kid undies. I am done with diapers until I am a grandma YIPEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DS (19 ) volentatily did the dishes when he got home from bowling last night. (i hadn't done them in 2 days)
DS(17) did extra credit to get a better grade in Gov. class.
DD 14 turned down a chance to help out at a bowling tourney Sat to study for finals next week.
I am going out to breakfast next Mon with 3 good friends from the school I worked at last year. I miss them them more than anything else about working.

Nephew got the OK from DR. to return to school. He needs 6 credits to graduate & they are going to let him do co-op for 3. so he should make it.

Just goes to show you that for most of us, if we stop and take notice, there are more positive things that happen in our daily lives than negative things. :bg:

A small glimmer of happiness....I earned a quick $60 yesterday, all because I happened to keep the original floor plans from our builder. A local real estate was paying $15 per style, and I had 4 he needed. Makes my embroidery machine a closer reality -- I'm about 1/2 way to it.

Glad to hear that all the DH's are doing well with their tests and illnesses. I was in your shoes 4 years ago, with a young baby.

Sending all of you hugs!

I got report cards yesterday.
Nathan a senior got a C in Gov.,a B in English (a big accomplishment, & A's in woodshop, suitcase video( they tape school activities & then edit the films for TV), Web design, & the big 1 AP Calculus. This is my son who went into 6th grade reading @ a 2nd grade level & writing @ a 1st grade level. He was in special ed classes through middle school & has worked quite hard to get to where he is now. He has had no special concessions made for him. Except the Gov. teacher e mailed me if he wasn't getting work in on time, but she did that for all students if parents gave her their address.

Sandy a freshman In all honors classes got B's in Algebra 3/4, & Biology( B+), A's in English, World Geography,Art, & French. This took a lot of hard work since all of her notes were stolen before Christmas & finals were the week after. She spent most of Christmas break redoing notes from friends & teachers & making note cards for studying. In elem. school I used to fight with her for hours to do homework. Now I try to get her to put away the books & be a kid sometimes. She plans to be a Zoologist some day. She already has scholarship to our community college as long as she graduates with her class. This is a local scholarship from our district & the police dept. given to students in 6th grade to encourage them to stay in school.

My DH got offered a supervisor position in the company he is in, he is already a supervisor but this position is in a different area, he would be head of a large group of men. He's got a month to decide, but I am pretty sure he'll take it. He does really well in the position he is in now, he likes to boss people around :bg:. It means a raise in salary too, which is nice!! And my sister has offered to sell me her Artista 180, I can save up for it. And my tulips are all coming up.

Great news! I was given orders by my specialist that I am not to work any more shift work!!!!! So, today it was announced that I will be moving to day shift Feb 23 - get this Mon-Fri 10-4!! What a cushy job!!! I get to learn how to do bone marrows and fine needle aspirates, and assist the hematology coordinator. I'm really excited about it. And so is hubby. I've been on graveyard/evening shift for 4 years, and we probably spend 7 evenings together in two weeks, if we're lucky. I get to take some courses as well, paid for by the hospital. This is so neat, I do lose my shift differential pay, but hubby got offered another supervisor job, with a $2/hr pay raise which covers my loss. What a blessing this has been!! I just had to share it with you all.
