I am new to sewing and this is my first night really doing some research. I was just wondering... what is hook and loop tape used for?

You can use it for alot of different things, for instance in place of buttons and buttonholes on a jacket, especially on a childs jacket, just use small pieces where the button and buttonhole go and sew a button on the top of the flap just for looks. Attatching shoulder pads(if you want to remove them for washing, ect), on shoes (I'm sure you have seen these in stores) I use to use quite abit on Halloween customes, have also seen it used on fridge doors in travel trailers, on blinds in trailers to keep the blinds from flapping around in transit. My son uses the sticky backed velcro in his truck to stick his remote for the stereo on his dash so it doesn't get lost. The possibilities are endless, somewhat like the endless use of duct tape. |

I have the sticky backed hook side of the velcro attached to the pedal of my sewing machine...hooks into the carpet and keeps it from moving around when I sew. I made quilted pin cushions and thread catchers as Christmas gifts and used the velcro to attach the thread catcher to the pin cushion. Makes the thread catcher removable so that it can be emptied. Oh geez, is that what it is! Well, turns out I bought some of that sticky velcro just yesterday at JoAnns-it was on clearance. I figured I would need it for something! Thanks everbody for helping me! I need to read into the sewing terminology soon.

Just mentioning, I tried the self-adhesive kind in a sewing project, just b/c the color was a good match for my fabric. The sticky side grabbed my thread, increasing the tension, and it caused the thread to break a lot. And gooed up my needle too. If it has a sticky side, it's great for sticking on things, but get the non-sticky kind if you plan to sew it into something.

also for pet clothes : ) bags, backpacks, messenger bags. sew on type.. I also made a fast bag for catching my un-used threads, that I use it on. The un-used threads are wonderful after it is filled, I give the threads to the birds too use while building a nest just put it in places where they can find it easy . DB
