Hello to all! I am new to sewing and learning a lot from my wife. I bought her a new Viking sewing machine and serger. (I learned a lot about the sewing machines during the buying process) Well, I found myself trying it out and found it interesting and frustrating at the same time. Interesting that I can do more than I thought and frustrating that my wife is trying to kick my out of the room. I tell her that my projects don’t take nearly as long as hers but that’s a different story that I’m not going to get into. I am looking for a door dodger that looks like a cat that is stretched out. I have looked on the internet and at the stores and had no luck. Does anyone know where I could find something like this?

Any help would be great!

Thanks ahead of time.

Hi, and welcome to Sew-what's-new! :bluesmile
This link goes to a photo of a cat draft dodger, not a pattern, but it looks fairly simple. Perhaps you could copy and enlarge the picture, and make your own pattern...maybe????

Every so often you'll find a draft dodger pattern in one of the big 4 pattern catalogs. However, since the new spring catalogs are out, I don't see anything. You might also check some of the craft books at the library (or online craft sites). Often craft books will have patterns that you can duplicate and blow up to get a working pattern. If not, long about next Aug or so you might find them in the pattern catalogs again.

Thanks for the help. After looking at many websites, I think I found the one. I tried to include a picture with this but it tells me that the file is to big. The file is 27.4 KB. How do you guys make files smaller so you can post them?

Third picture down from the top. The door want's to close a little on it's own and I though a draft dodger would work out great. Now I see this and with changing the fabric to look like our cat, I think she like it.

Thanks for the help.

Hercules, the Wonder Kitty? He's adorable but would he stop drafts? There is one further down, not nearly as cute but he is designed for that, if it is what you need...Hang Around Kitty.

Found a few of these online (I'm in the process of making one myself). Here's one from the Rusty Bobbin (http://rustybobbin.com/inklings/sew-draftsnakes.html); another one here (http://www.craftybug.com/sewing/draftstopper.htm); another one here (http://www.planetshoup.com/easy/sew/draftstp.shtml), and the last one at Sewing.com (http://sewing.about.com/library/weekly/aa011099.htm).

None of these are shaped like cats, but maybe some more advanced sewer than I could suggest how to do ears, feet, and a tail. Anyway...

I went by Hancocks to take advantage of their dollar Butterick Pattern sale. In the very back of the craft section I found a set. However, there isn't a cat. YOu might be able to adapt one of them though. THey have a girl and boy bunny, scarecrow, angel and frog. The pattern number is 3560.
