I got my first sewing machine this past Christmas. It's a Singer 8280. I was wondering if anyone had anything good or bad to say about it. :nervous:

I don't know about your particular machine but there are still plenty of very loyal Singer owners. I'm sure that it will be fine. We can all brag about the type of machine we love but the fact is that we either just get used to what we have or we like our machines because of a particular feature.

Hmmm, Stitchy. The not-so-smiley face in your post makes me think you've been gathering up some opinions of your own! I don't know the machine, either, but I have a hunch that a little more time in the manual and maybe some more practice (not on a project that you're dying to get right!) will help you get oriented and you'll be happier soon. I was going to suggest a visit to the dealer, but I looked it up, and I see it's not a dealership model. That's alright. A self-starter can do nicely for herself :) But I also see that it was reviewed quite favorably by purchasers. Have you been able to get a good straight stitch yet? If you can, then start practicing straight stitches and pivoting at the corners of the fabric, just rudimentary stuff, till you get in sync with each other. If you're having trouble just stitching, then let's start by looking in the manual at the pages about 1) threading your machine, 2) The bobbin, and 3) Adjusting Thread Tension.
