Just wondering what everyone perfers.

Cotton/lycra, Poly/lycra, Nylon/lycra, jersey/lycra, rayon/lycra,
cotton interlock and cotton/poly interlock. I find all the different lycra's
confusing. Is the nylon/lycra better than the poly/lycra?

I am looking for comfort, good recovery, easy care fabric.

All opinions appreciated. Thanks

Part is going to be your personal preferance. Personally I don't like to many lycra tops because I don't want any cling to them - read I am now past 40 and often have the extra in the tummy :bg: I like my tops loose  so I stick with more interlock, cotton interlocks or cotton poly interlocks. If I do use any lycra it has to be minimal the less lycra the less cling :bg: Most of the lycra style fabric I save for my teen dd who still has the teen body to wear the body hugging styles & look good :bluewink: Okay unless we talk about tank-top that I might wear under other shirts :re:

of the lycras, poly-lycra will breathe better than nylon-lycra.. Personally , 'cause I'm older and heavy, and short, I prefer poly-cotton interlock for the non-cling factor.. I use poly lycra for the spring back in small areas..

I'm like a few of the ladies who have already posted here...while I love the look of the snug lycra tops, I prefer to wear something looser and more airy. I will be using cotton-blend fabrics for my summer tops this year, mostly because it's easier for me to sew with, and secondly because of the comfort I'll get. It gets really humid here in the summer, so the lighter the clothing I'm wearing the better I feel!

I can't wear anything but cotton (sometimes with a blend) or silk....
So 99% it's cotton for me...

My favorite summer shirts are cotton, cotton blend. short sleeve blouses or sleeveless tops. I have a pattern that is about 30 yrs. old that I still use & adapt to my needs now. It is a straight top with a V neck that is gathered across the shoulder seam. the pattern calls for ribbon tied at the sleeve end so you can adjust the sleeve lenght but I use elastic. These are very comforatable on hot summer days made out of light weight cotton.

Thanks ladies. I also think cotton is more comfortable and cooler. I just like a little lycra as it keeps its shape better. I also like some poly in my cotton for the wrinkle and shrinkage factor. I have never tried nylon/lycra but I see a lot of tanks made out of it.

I agree with Crys. I do cottons, some poly-cottons and silks. I buy extra yardage and prewash & dry in the manner I plan to care for the garment. I do wear some cotton interlock. Light weight denims. Poly, rayons etc are for skirts and pants. Rarely wear dresses, almost 98% two pieces (figure issues). I find these fabrics are seasonless, depending on pattern, layers, etc.

Hi Everyone! :bg:

I haven't been here in ages!

I really love the cotton krinkle fabrics that used to be so popular in summer. They give and stretch a bit, like a knit, but they breath more than knits and are much cooler. Whenever I can manage to find some, (not easy in this "one horse", "one fabric store" town), I stock up.

There are lightweight 100% cotton krinkle fabrics that are gauzy and perfect for summer nightgowns, and tops, medium weight for fall tops, skirts, shorts, and heavy weight that can be used for slacks, shorts, and even matching jackets or vests. Some are also made from synthetics, but I find them too hot, even in cold weather.

My other fabric of choice for summer is rayon, preferably with cotton. I love the comfort, and breathability of a good rayon/cotton blend. 100% rayon is good too, if lightweight, but I don't like rayon with synthetics. It can be sweaty and hot.

A very lightweight cotton knit is ok too, but harder to find. Most are just too thick, heavy and hot for summer, for me anyway.

Of course, I'm one of those people who can't stand the heat, and I wear skorts all winter long lately. Closest thing to shorts that I can get, (slacks are just horrible looking on me and tend to be too warm - hot flash city).

Yes, its cold outside, lots of snow and I still wear a skort to go shopping. I go for comfort first these days.

And I agree, I like my clothes loose and comfortable.

Don't think so sugarplum, but it sure is refreshing to hear!!!!! I get tired of seeing all those belly buttons and tight clothes that show exactly what is being worn underneath. I'm thankful my girls are adults now and we don't have to go through those arguments - though I only had one that wanted to dress like that.
