I know this has probably been asked before. I have a friend that is bed-ridden and very ill. I want to make him some personal, cheery hospital johnnies. I am looking for patterns for them now. Anyone know where to find them? Also, I had a thought. Do you think if I bought the [attern for those nursing smocks I can adapt it to make these hospital johnnies? I thought if I bought the largest pattern for the nursing tops and cut them all the way up the back and finished the seams then used those button like round velcrose to close the back up it may work? :monkey:

I wouldn't use velcro closures because they have a tendancy to pull apart when you put stress on them. I would use ties as my preferance. Maybe you could try 1 each way & see what the person prefers. My mom made a lot of these type gowns when my Aunt was bedridden she just used a nightgown pattern & cut the front on the fold & slit the back. She added snaps to the shoulders on some for easy access for the nurses & IVs

I think this is one of the coolest patterns in any of the catalogs. As one who spent many years as the care giver of disabled parent, I would have loved to have had this pattern when I needed it. I actually did find a gown made like this just shortly before my mother died but it was too late for us to enjoy. The only difference was that the one I bought had the opening the back. There was also some lace and other little extras to make the gown softer and feminine. I don't know if I would have liked the front opening better or not, in some instances, it might be better. I would like for more people to write the pattern companies and request these types of patterns. There is a remarkable need! The word also needs to get out for people who need them! I hope that you find it useful too! I do think this could probably be changed to a back opening.
