Hi everyone. I am new and delighted to find this web site. I have a problem that I hope someone could help me with. I have been working on a scrub top for my daughter-in-law. It was suposed to be her Christmas gift. I have been having a hard time with the sew-in snaps for the front. They keep sliding when I try to sew them on. Is there some kind of secret to getting them positioned right? I have tried everything that has been suggested to me. I used the pattern to set the position for spacing. But when I try to sew the snaps they move. I have had to take them out twice. Sometimes they are as much as half an inch off. Will someone please help me??????????!!!!!!!!!!!! Until now I have attempted simple things like pullover tops, pull-on pants and skirts. No buttons, buttonholes or SNAPS. I have put in zippers though.
My dil is a very understanding person.
Thanks.
Kathleen

Most snaps have a hole in the center. You can run a pin into the center and "nail" in place while you sew. I usually just hold it in place with my thumb though...probably just from years of practice. If you sew it with a button hole stitch, you don't have to make as many stitched either, about 3 per side. Just go through the snap so you have a circle of thread through the snap. Run your thread through the loop and it ties a little knot. If you do about 3 on each side, it makes a nice snap that is tied into place. I always tie a little knot at the end when I finish.

I join the others in welcome, Kathleen. FYI - Most scrubs I have worn and seen have velcro rather than snaps for openings. Either snaps or velcro, if a patient/client/resident grabs clothes they should open with out pulling the wearer into/onto danger. Button, rip.

Welcome! When I have to sew something piddly like that on I use a product called Glue Pins. It is a liquid that I dab on with the end of a toothpick or a brush, it dries quickly, doesn't gum up your needle and washes out. I use it all the time for sewing on buttons, cause they always slip on me too. Being someone who wears a uniform as well, I can go with either snaps or velcro, but the snaps need to be a strong kind. I imagine you are doing them at the neck down the front?? Have you thought about the sew in snap tape? It works great for something like a tabbed front.
