I am going to try to make a medium to large tote bag I i don't know what kind of interfacing to use. Do I use a thick fusable interfacing or a canvas materal to make the tote stong. |

I went to the Simplicity Classroom website and used the directions for "How to make a tote bag". I used quilted fabric for the outside, medium weight fusible interfacing and cotton sheet-like material for the inside lining. The directions were simple, easy to make and it's pretty big (21" squares with the bottom corners cut out). The pattern is basically three sets of squares plus material for handles. Just a thought if you hadn't picked out a pattern. It had been over 20 years since I sewed anything and it was fun. Finally something I sewed that I can actually use!! - Maureen.

Thanks for the tote idea at the Simplicity classroom Maureen. I do have a pattern but I may consider using Simplicity's tote. I had just sewing a few years ago and wish I had started a lot earlier. Thanks Chrys for your suggestion of Buckram. Is that a fusable interfacing? Karen |

Buckram is also the stiff stuff that is put into ball cap brims so no - it isn't fusible, at least I haven't seen fusible stuff.

I just got some stuff at the little quilt store for fabric bowls. It is called fast2fuse interfacing and is fusible on both sides. It is like Timtex only costs more and, of course is fusible on both sides. I wonder if that might work. www.ctpub.com It's there under catalog. Dorothy |

Buckram is great stuff but it doesn't wash very well which might be a consideration if you are going to wash your purse.
