Hi there,

A friend of mine is looking for a particular pattern. Here's a copy-and-paste of what she's looking for:

"I ... spent some minutes searching for a pattern for this particular scarf. One of the other ladies was wearing one, and someone said they had been looking for a pattern. I tried finding one, looking for all kinds of search words, but only found knit patterns. Was looking for a sewing one.

Now - the kind of scarf would be one to wear under a coat or jacket, just for a bit of colour by the throat area. I think it is also called a niftyscarf. Roughly triangular in shape with two smaller bands that go around the back of the neck to fasten with velcro. Inside is lined with fleece, outside is a proper scarf with silky, colourful fabric. That means you always have a nice full fold under your jacket, you have warmth where needed and you never have to fiddle with knotting the thing to make it look right."

Any ideas, anyone?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Salamander5, Welcome to SWN.
I know exactly what type of scarf she means as I have one but I did not make it. I bought it at least 2 years ago at a Christmas craft show here in Ottawa :Canada: . It was made by a lady from Nova Scotia who was here for the show. And this year I bought another one for my sister. I have searched for a free pattern but was unable to find one and since the lady came back this year...well it was easier to just buy it. But it is made with silk on the front and fleece on the back (side that goes next to your neck).

I don't know the if your friend sews but it shouldn't be too hard to make. I am planning on trying it when I have some time to experiment. It is just two triangles of fabric sewn together and the two ends that go around the neck are squared off instead of going to a point. Then velcro is attached - on left side of scarf...the loop side of velcro is attached on the silk side of the scarf, on right side of scarf...the hook side of velcro is attached on the fleece side of the scarf.

Here is the site that sells a pattern for hats and the scarf that is included seems to be the style wanted

If anyone out there knows of a free pattern, I would also be interested too. Good luck.
