I'm still running Win98 and I want to upgrade to WinXP. Does anyone know if there is a US and a CDN version or are they the same. I can't seem to get an answer from anyone!

There is no difference in US or Canadian versions....they're the same.
The only difference is...98 is out of date and XP almost is...(anything thats 3 yrs old in a computer world is out of date.)

Microsoft has realized that many people are not upgrading because they like 98 so much that have extended there service for it by at least 3 or more years, xp is going to be similar i think, i have few geeky friends that have the beta version of the "next one" and they say it will be like 2000 or windows me, not something to write home about, i have no clue, just going by what they say :re:

i quite like the xp and will take me a loooooooooooooooong time before i change it :bluewink:

Yeah my husband is a 'geek' too and always tells me the 'latest' news. (either him or my sister who lives across the water from Mr. Gates).
I started online in 1985...Comodore64...anything AFTER that is like BEST EVER to me...I never did like the way the floppies would bang on the drives heads and make such awful noises..but you could carry your floppy with you and use it on anyones computer then...not as many hackers, no viruses, (only the weirdos...and you'd hang out with them anyway... :bg: )

I'm one of those wear it out till it goes out and my computer version of windows is ME. I like ME. I will use it till my computer says different. The only thing I use the computer for is to: Transfer designs to the sewing machine, edit my designs, play on the net, chat with my buddies here, do some banking, do some word processing, email my family and friends, and of course read the newspaper and catch up on all the news weather and other junk going on in the world. Other than that I could do without my computer :bg: :bg: NOTTTTTT

Whatever the next computer I buy if any has on it that is what I'll use. Doesn't XP have a way to use 98 if you'd like? I think it has 98 built in it's interface. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

:pc: I have a whole heap of software at work I can no longer use because windows won't read it anymore..
I'll stick with my Mac - at least it still talks to it's older cousins.

Here's the explanation I just got from my "geeky" husband who builds computers from scratch. He refuses to buy packaged computers because they are no upgradable (i.e., the way they are built if one component goes out everything else goes with it whereas when they are custom built, all of the components (chips, mother board, etc.) are individual components and you only replace what might go bad, not the entire computer). Anyway, he said XP doesn't have a 98 interface built into it, but that some of the 98 programs (software) are compatible with XP but you more than likely will need to download XP drivers for 98 programs/software to run in XP. Hope that makes sense.

Made tons of sense. I have just purchased the Win XP and waiting for it to get here. I am going to start downloading the updated drivers and save them to a cd for my hardware/software and backing up everything before doing the wipeout of the old system. I've reinstalled Win98 a few times so I'm not to worried and I was at a Tupperware party on Sat and found out that one of the women there that I know is a computer geek and is willing to help out if I run into trouble. Next step - Embroidery box!!!
