Bernina, who is the parent company of OESD (embroideryonline.com or Oklahoma Embroidery Supply and Design), has announced that they have purchased Great Notions. Great Notions makes the Amazing Designs line of products along with the Amazing Box. (OESD makes the Magic Box.) Among other things, that also means that the Great Notions designs will be available through the Embroidery Take Out program. The Great Notions product line will continue to be produced in Dallas, Tx and marketed under their own brand. OESD is located in Oklahoma City, Ok.

It should be interesting to see how this will change or improve the product lines.

It's also interesting to note that while Bernina is snapping up other businesses, they're using Janome to make some of their machines..I wonder where this is ALL gonna end up....

Bernina is using Janome to make the 3 lower model machines and their Deco (embroidery only) machine. This has ended their long association with Brother that made those machines for several years. I don't know why they ended their association with Brother.

Their Bernette sergers were also made by some other company. Bernina, on the other hands makes (or has made) one of the Tac Sew professional machines. I don't know who is making the sergers that have Bernina on the cover.

So many consolidations! The holding company that owns Singer just bought Viking/Pfaff!? Janome also makes the Pfaff and Viking quilting machines. That makes 3 corporations....Tacony,SVP,and Bernina/GN/OESD. Anyone know who owns Tacony and if they are somehow tied?

Bernina is actually a family owned business. They bought OESD when they entered the embroidery market. It is already the largest privately owned sewing machine mfg in the world. However, OESD and this new project gives them a little more diversification.
