That just means more walking, celery sticks and Creative Sewing. I am just now learning...teaching myself to sew. I locked myself in my studio and duked it out with my little ole' Kenmore, and wasn't gonna come out until I conquered a thing or two! So far, I'm still standing, but am stumped about a new project that I am hoping someone Here could offer some guidance on.

(I am sure none of you have been here) My pants have "shrunk".
And I was thinking maybe I could cut them down the sides...add some additional fabric to the "split", sew back up and wa-la! New pants !

Or add the extra fabric, Plus, add some of that Stretchy trim( don't know what it's called) in the waist line...then recover that part with fabric.

Am I making any sense ? Is this do-able ? Practical ? I have a lot of gorgeous clothing that I have, uhem, ..grown out of, and have decided now I want to grow back In to them !

How about it, sewing affianados out there ? Can ya help a gal re-invent her self ?

I've done that with jeans etc. Put a bar of fabric down each side and played with the waist to make it look good. A nice look on dress pants is to use wide satin ribbon or get some satin that matches your pants. Very dressy. For jeans I would use anything. Velvet looks cool. Have fun!

You're in luck...the 70's are BACK....get some really crazy (or not so crazy) fabric and have at it...
Pre-embroidered ribbon is back in too.....can be 'classy'....
Some of the new fabrics have borders on'em...cut off the border and sew it on..have fun !!! (I'd do it...but then I'm known for being 'different' in a quiet/classy way....hahahahahahahahahahahahaha :bg: )

These kinds of trick are great, thinking outside the box, open up the creativity to make a wadder something useful - plus get to have some fun - at least that is how I think of it! I did something similar to a pair of jeans I made for #3 dd. I thought I had the sizing down, but somehow they where too narrow through the hips & waist. I embroidered 2 strips of fabric, added those strips down the outside seams of the pants, of couse had to re-adjust the waistband too. As a final touch added some hot-fix jewels to the embroidered strips too! And we had a pair of jeans that not only fit - but she absolutely loved ! So have fun !

Wow, thanks for all the great responses. You assured me that it Could be done...so I'm gonna give it a go!! There's nothing so disheartening than trying to make improvemnets (I amean, we are always growing right ??) in one's self and nothing fits.

We all like to fit in....especially in our clothes. I know that clothes don't make the person, but it sure makes one glow a bit if they look good on you...no matter what size you are !!

Thanks glas (did I miss any guys ?)

Not only is it creative but you also have something NO ONE else will ever have. It's an orginal. I guess that's how designers get started.

Not knowing what I am doing, faking it...I took a pair of linen pants, kinda worn but safe to play with...and...LOL...it's been hilarious ":teaching" myself these things. I have sewn the wrong side in, or right side out, ripped it out a few times cut the additions too short......

I am still at it, but had to take a break before i destroyed it completely.

Funny, a few years ago doing this would have driven me to murder. Now I just laugh. it's been a fun challenge and a lesson in patience.

Thanks for the encouragement, members.
