Wow, Libby, you had me going for a minute there. My husband was talking just this morning about a possible job in Asheville.
Then you tell me they have a great little independent fabric shop it was really sounding good but at those prices -- forget it.
It's not worth moving for.
I guess my trips to the New York City garment district has spoiled me.

You are so lucky.. We have one shop owner here that goes to NY and shops the garment district for designer leftover bolts.. I have a beautiful piece of black that I bought from her a couple of years ago to make a 'little black dress' but I am still searching for the perfect design for it.. LOL. That is the only way I can get any NY garment district fabric.. I have a flag blue wool jersey dress I made several years ago from more of the designer leftovers Anne brought back.. Every time I wear that dress, everyone wants to know where I bought it.. An Aunt of mine called me a liar when I said I made it.. Made me feel good ! ! :bg: :bg:

That place is heaven, Libby. Blocks and blocks of little fabric shops and some great prices. One of the best days of my live was when I was looking for wool to make a coat. It was August or September and I most places didn't have the coat weight wool out yet. I ended up in a basement climbing over piles of bolts of fabric. It was wonderful.
Oh -- here's the trick. If anyone of you goes to the city with other people that might not be so interested in fabric (read husband in many cases) go to Times Square. Everyone goes there and you are just a block or two from where you want to go. "Oh my," you say, "Look at all the fabric shops! Let's just pop in one or two while we are here. It won't take but a minute."

I'm sure the L. A. fabric district can't compare with N.Y., but it was real close to where I used to work. Found some really neat fabric there over the years, for killer prices! There is also a bead district in the same area, and I went nuts there too!

I have heard from many that the L.A. fabric district is a very fine place indeed.
