I was looking at making a t-shirt pattern from Ottobre magazine for my daughter. The pattern asks for two notions: stabilizing tape, Vlieseline Formband and Clear Elastic Tape, Framilon. I have never seen either of these two notions. Can I omit them? Is there something I can substitute for these? They seem to be used in stabilizing seams.

The clear elastic is in most fabric stores. Just ask for it.

stabalizing tape you can substitute twill tape or I just use the salvege edge of cotton fabric. The edge you toss. It does not stretch and it does not have a bias.
The more you disaprove, the more fun I am having!

I always use bias tape for stabilizing seams. I have every color on hand and always have some little pieces that I can't use for anything else.

The selvege edge of cotton fabrics costs you nothing extra..Bias tape stretches so I would not use that.. I use the very narrow polyester satin ribbon that you can buy for 44 cents a roll everywhere.. It comes in hundreds of colors if you are a stickler for color, I just use light or dark and make do, because I make so many t-shirts.. Works great for me.. My Kwik sew pattern only says do it on the shoulder seams, not down the sides.. :bg: :bg:

There is a clear tape that looks like the elastic. That is probably what they are using. It doesn't stretch and often you see it in purchased garments. It should be on the notions wall at any fabric store with the stitch witchery and Res Q tape. I like the clear but have used twill tape for years.

You will find the clear elastic with the other elastics. You can purchase it by the yard or by the package. Hancocks is having a 50% off notions sale this Friday (tomorrow) and Sat just in case there is one close.
