Okay I am making a fabric box for a friend and she bought Heat and Bond to fuse the Trimtex and fabric together. Well I need to satin stitch all around the top to cover the raw edges. She picked a rayon decorative thread. My needle is gumming up really bad and the thread is breaking. I have never had this happen before with the fabric boxes, but I have never used Heat and Bond either. Am I doing something wrong or should be doing something different?

It is something that is sticky. I haven't used Heat N Bond. I didn't realize it was. If you have those pads of alcohol wipes, you can clean your needle with those. You don't want to drip alcohol in your machine but it can usually clean the sticky off your needle. You may not want to use that product again. Some of those sticky things can be more trouble than they are worth.

Heat and Bond and Heat and Bond Ultra gum up my needle.
Heat and Bond Lite does not. I have done a lot of fusible machine
applique, and have had many trials and errors with fusibles.

The "gummy needle" problem is why I only use steam-a-seam II for applique. I've tried almost everything on the market and had the "gummy needle" experience so now I stick with my old tried and true steam-a-seam II.

Wonder Under By Pellon will not gum up a needle either.. I think they were first on the market, but I'm not sure about that.. I do know that Heat N Bond will never come in this house again.. Not worth 2 cents IMHO... :bg: :bg:

Thank you all, Heat and Bond will not be used by me again, this stuff is terrible. I shall get it done with the stuff, but I shall not ever use it again. This is sure making it not a fun thing to sew right now.

I found out the hard way there are different kinds of iron ons. Some specify that they are for NO SEW projects. I used the wrong kind once & it was a mess. The same is true of Velcro. Sticky back should not be sewn on.

I agree with everyone on the heat and bond, and the velcro sticky back, but then also I don't find they stick ever, unless I put crazy glue on them which is not great on fabrics. No wonder they were on sale!!!!
