I am going back to work Monday. 4 1/2 hrs a day paid. I will be there more like 6. I am a cashier/ breakfast-lunch server in an elementary school. This is the same position I had last year before I was laid off just in a different school. They placed me last week in a school across town. I was supposed to start today. I visited on Monday & found out that the person doing the job as a sub has been there for 1 1/2 yrs. The regular person was on med. leave so they couldn't fill it until now. I felt very uncomfortable. No one wanted her to leave & they didn't want to give me a chance. I called my supervisor & they found out this job was opening next week. It is 1/2 hr less pay per day but 45 min less driving & I am not taking it from anyone. The last person was fired & is under investigation for shoddy bookkeeping & money handling. I visited there yesterday & felt very comfortable. a supervisor is going to stay with me for a few days until I get used to the job again.
I will try to get on & check out what everyone is doing during my breaks.

Congrats on the new job and I'm happy for you that it is a more comfortable situation. If you work, you surely need it to be as pleasant as possible.
Wishing you the best.

Congrats Barb, don't forget to leave some time for us and for sewing!! If you have to work, you may as well like where you are, cause its a lot of hours to spend somewhere if you don't like it.

I love working with kids & have heard the staff at this school is great & they have a good custodian. The custodian where I worked last year is a friend of mine & she used to work in this school. She is sure I will like it. The problem is I loved it where I was before I got bumped. I only worked there a year but I had volenteered there for 5 yrs. before that & knew all of the staff & most of the kids & parents. My DGS goes to that school. I told them if it ever opens up again I want it back! The new job is close enough that I can still go back occasionaly to visit with some friends there after school.

I will have a 45 min break in the morn. & I should be home before the teenagers grab the computer in the afternoon so I will get on when I can. I did more sewing when I was working than when I wasn't because I have to budget my time. I found that when I'm not working I put things off until they have to be done in a panic. I told my family tommorrow is clean house day & sunday I get to sew.

When I worked outside the home I would try to make at least one seam before I left in the morning. It made the day better.
I'm glad you got the job you think you will like. There is nothing worse for the soul than getting up in the morning and dreading the day -- day after day -- and no end in sight.
Good Luck
