Wow, someone from Saskatchewan! Cool!! I'm originally from Saskatoon. Welcome to the boards!! I have three kinds of thread

Sulky 30
Guterman Embroidery
Marathon - my sister got me these 1000 m spools

I am happy with all three. I do find the Marathon ones tend to twist when they are coming off the spool, but I think that's cause I have them coming off wrong. I don't have the vertical spool holder for my machine, I keep forgetting to buy one, so I have it sit on the table at the side and come off that way. I use guterman's bobbin thread in the bobbins too.

Can't you get Guterman embroidery thread there or are you not close to a Fabricland?
I'm not familiar with C&C embroidery thread, but I'm ok with their sewing thread, though I prefer Mettler or Guterman. Course none of these types are what you asked about :re:

Leave the Coats and Clark in the store.... (it's cheap, linty and will make a mess of your machine)

Robinson-Anton
Mettler
Guttermann
Madiera
Isacord
YLI/Yenmet (OESD)
Sulky (for some....it shreds in MY machines)

All these threads are great for embroidery, come in Poly, Rayon, Metallic and some in cotton. (YLI also has 'color change' thread)

Kath, I haven't used much of the polyester C&C but I love their Rayon thread. I use it all the time. I've never had any problems with it. I don't like ARC. The rest of the brand name brands are fine.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

we've been warned not to use Coats and Clark in our Janomes...it shreds and makes a mess. (besides being made in China now and NOT the U.S., I'm told it's too cheap to work well in the new machines...thats why I say veto it...)
I tell that to everyone...

I use RA, Madiera, Guttermann, Mettler, YLI/Yenmet....Sulky is a pain in my machines too...I guess it depends on the machine...Susie...
You like Sulky...I have some I'd LOVE to get rid of....I'd send it to ya...

Kath I usually buy whatever color I need or like. It doesn't matter what brand. I guess I'm using it that often to make a difference. I use coats for regular sewing also, and now that I'm so far away from a fabric store that handles the other brands I have lots of coats. Maybe I'm so use to using it that when I use the good stuff I don't realize the difference. As you can see I'm not very observent. I have a Janome 9000 and I've used the Coats and never had a problem. Although I do tend to clean the bobbin case after almost every use Maybe that's the key to all this, I clean it out anyway and don't notice the fuzz. I was always scared my bobbin case would get clogged up with fuzz and stop my machine from working so it's cleaned out regularly. Now I do prefer the Madieria bobbin thread in my Singer XL6000 because of the continuous bobbin feature, the machine works well with the Madiera

I love the Isacord poly and Yenmet for metalic. I've never had a bad spool or color yet. I like to use the color charts for most of my designs. If you think that you will be doing that too, I would suggest that you choose a thread and stay with it because it is much easier to keep stock of your colors and convert colors if you are dealing with one brand.

I don't like Sulky very much. Maderia and Mettler are excellent threads also.

A lot of people have problems with Coats and Sulky, esp in the darker colors. Thread Art (if you should later look at that brand) has an iffy reputation. If you are going to have problems with a thread, it is more likely to happen in blacks.

My Singer dealer has recommended using Floriani thread and stabilizers. To date, with the little bit of work I've done, I have to agree with the very linty nature of the Coats thread for embroidery (I do use it for general sewing, and have had few if any problems). I recently purchased 5 spools of the Sulky, but haven't tried it yet. The Floriani thread seems to work very well in my Quantum Futura CE 200, and has a very nice professional look to it. As I get more experienced (and more adventurous) I'll try some Madera and Robinson-Anton, if I can find it.

Floriani is supposed to be a very nice line of stabilizers.

They are Pam, I met the man in person and he knows his stuff. He had a lecture on digitizing and stablization and he knows his stuff. His Grandfather use to digitize emboridery manually, his story of growning up in the industry is very imformative no wonder he knows his stuff.
