Is there a place that you all sent pics of your finished Family Tree Quilt, that may not be the right name for it, I can't remember, but it is the one that was just finished December of 05. My computer got sick and i lost the addy of Joann's site where we sent pics of each block as we finished it.
Is there going to be another bom this year?

Thanks

It was called the Advent Quilt and we sent them to Joanne's email address. But Joanne went into the hospital last fall and is still recovering. She hasn't been well enough since to be back on SWN. Mary periodically gives us an update on how she is doing.

I don't know how many people have finished the quilt...I know I haven't. Need to do the baby block and then the tree. I keep saying I will work on them tomorrow... but tomorrow hasn't come yet. :bg:

If you have finished yours, I'm sure everyone would like to see it. Do you have a photo site where you can post a picture?

Hi Judee,
I was wondering about this awhile back. I still have some blocks to finish and wondered what the others might look like. Hope Jo is back to good health soon. Are the pictures that were up still available? Do you know the link that we used? Sue

I was working on 3 of them and finished 1 so far, but I didn't like the tree part-probably something I did so I made some extra blocks and filled in. Gave one to my dil for Christmas. Took a picture but haven't sent it in. Does anyone know how Joanne is doing?

Well, I had finished the last block (tree). I just need to put the leaves on with our family names. I haven't done that. Then it is a matter of putting the top together. I haven't worked on it since, before the holidays. I plan on getting back to it, as I don't like to have a bunch of unfinished projects laying around. I haven't heard how Joann is doing lately. Maybe Mary can give us a fresh update?

I know all about those UFO's. This year I've joined two Block of the Month groups at my local quilt shop - one patchwork and one appliqué. Also, there is a monthly sewing club that I go to and have homework to do. So by the time I do the month's projects for these, I don't have a lot of time to work on finishing the other three quilts...Advent, June Signature swap, Christmas swap. But one of these days.....they will get finished.

Me too, I've been wondering how Joanne is doing...Hope she's doing OK.

I am almost finished with the orginal blocks, just have to put leaves on the tree. But I plan on using the quilt as a spread for my bed, so I have to add extra blocks, as it need to be queen size. I have most of them cut, just need to sew them together.I was hoping someone had finished theirs so I could see how you put them together. I made some blocks more than once, so guess I will just space them out. The extras are just 4 patch, with 2 small blocks cut on angle, and 2 solid ,just something to fill in.
No I don't have a pic place, wouldn'tknow how to use it if i did. lol
Sorry to hear about Joanne, she does a good job with the teaching of the blocks, and giving us all the help we need. Hope she will be back soon.
Maybe I will have this quilt finished by the time she is ready to start on another one.

Finally finished the tree block and put my blocks around that block. Now I must have missed a lesson, that took some head scratching. I am sure it is not done right, but there are a lot of mistakes in all of it. Just hope the Quilt Police don't come with a search warrant.
Is Joanne posting pics if we send them to her? Or anyone else?

How big was your finished quilt? Full, Queen? It looks like you made some extra blocks? The reason I ask, is I haven't decided yet if I want to make it a lap quilt, wall hanging or a bed quilt.

I don't know the size, I just made it so it would be a bed spread for my queen size bed, pillow top. my blocks ended up being only 11 in finished. and it is 6 blocks accross and 8 blocks long, 2 in strips and 4 in border. except for the narrow strip on the blocks just below and just above the tree, mine just didn't work out to use the 2 in strip there.
Now when I get back from the beach next week, i would like to see more pics of finished tops.

Thanks for all the complements

This week I bought a new sewing table so have spent the morning assembling it. Now have to re-arrange my sewing room to fit it in. After that is done then maybe I can work on my tree block. (I know...excuses...excuses! )

Rodi and Joanne...I thought I would post that last weekend
1) I completed August's block the baby block
AND
2) I started my tree block...the tree has been cut out, ironed on and has been appliquéd...the appliqué took me a bit of time :whacky: :whacky:

Now I just have to do my leaves to put on the tree. I am hoping to do most of them this weekend since I am waiting for my sister to give me some birthdates as I am planning on giving it to my niece (sister's daughter) and I want to put her family on the tree.

I am getting there....

Liz - FYI - I am making mine using only the 8 blocks + the tree block that we did. I have decided that I will put 3 blocks across the top row, the tree block which I am making will probably be a 26" finished square (26 1/2 unfinished) on the next row with 2 of the blocks vertically down the side of the tree block and then 3 blocks across the bottom. I am planning on using 2" sashing strips between all the blocks and along the outer edge. And I think I am going to do a 1" border with another 8" border.

All to say that my estimated finished size of my quilt if I do this will be 62" wide x 76" long. If I want it longer and wider, can increase my sashing strips but if I do that I will have to make the tree block a bigger square. Also, I may make the outside borders bigger.

Judy,

I think that would be a great idea. I still haven't gotten to mine yet. I''ve been too busy even to come and visit here once in awhile. I still plan on finishing it over the summer if I can. We are going to be moving, we just purchased some property and will be building a house, so I might not get to sew much.

But, when we are done and moved into the new home I'm going to have the whole loft (we are putting up a Chalet) for my sewing, craft room or I guess I would call it my studio. I can't wait!!! I feel like a child waiting for Santa Claus.

Have a great day!

Joanne....yep I will send a pic of the 2 blocks when I have finished so you can post in the album. Never know when the actual quilt will get finished...things seem to happen to delay the process.

I forgot to mention that there was a method in the colours and the way I appliquéd the leaves...

Since I am giving this to my niece, her two sets of grandparents are on the ground. The two large green leaves near the main truck of the tree are my sister and my BIL (niece's father) and the large green leaves on the outside branches are my niece and my nephews. The small light green leaves are all the great niece's and nephews...and the small leaves are pointing to the parent's leaf. I have embroidered the first name of everyone on each leaf with the year month and day of birth - except for the grandparents on my BIL's side...I have the month & day but not the year. My sister is supposed to be getting this info - so will add it later - hopefully before the quilt is put together.

Mary, have you forgotten that "Teach" knows all and sees all??? :nervous:

By the way, Jo, welcome back. Glad to see that you're on the mend and bouncing back.

Okay fellow quilting students -- "Teach" seems to be back among us so we'd better snap to and get all those block finished and put together! (Well, maybe after I get through the "Tea Party" season here in OKC). :bolt:

Will miss your quilt tip a day newletter Mary! Always enjoyed it. I might not got to read it each day but I'd save it and go back. So much good info you sent out. Thanks!

I forgot where we were posting about this quilt so I put a query in the other quilting forum - anyway - here is how I have got on so far. The whole thing is only laid on the bed - I have nearly finished piecing the top - just working out what too use for the binding now. I am going to see if I have enough of the sashing fabric but I am not convinced I have. Otherwise I have some white cotton.http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e81/Janicehodge/IMG_2584.jpg

I like the way the blocks seem to float over the background. Working deliberately with a restricted colour palette helped me to make a cohesive quilt I feel.

Jan...your quilt is super!!! Love your geese border. Seeing your quilt with the limited colour palette makes me want to try one too. Great job. Teacher is going to be proud!
