I'm making a cover for my machines and need to make my own cording/piping. Does the fabric for the cord really need to be cut on a bias? I know the bias would make it stretchy. Does the bias make it cover the cord better? The cover is going to be a basic front, back and insert. The instructions call for the cording to be sewn to the insert then front and back sewn to the insert.

If it is not cut on a bias and you apply it on any curve or corner, it will scrunch/bunch/ripple/resist and not look that great. Are you too short on yardage to make a bias strip that's long enough? I think you could get away with a pack of Wright's wide bias binding in a coordinating color--unfold it and cover the cording with that.

I've used the double folded bias tape as well after I've ironed it open.
