I have a bunch of pants (casual, like jean style, I guess) and they all have flares on them. I want to have the flares removed--I want them to be perfectly straight from the knee down. I brought one pair to a seamstress I know and she was able to take the flare off, but the problem was that she messed up the lining on both sides! The lining now curves forward, and no longer runs straight down both sides of my legs, so it kind of looks as though my pants are turned a little to the side at the bottoms. It doesn't really affect the shape or overall look of the pants, as it's a perfectly in tact lining, it's just a little off-center. Regardless, this isn't acceptable for the rest of my pants and I wanna know how it can be avoided. The lady told me that it was just a side-effect of the alteration, but I don't believe her, afterall, she really only has experience with dresses, etc. Can anyone tell me how this alteration is done? Some of my pants have "plain" seams (the simple, most inconspicuous seam) and some have that puffy, overlapping seam, characteristic of jeans. I look forward to your responses, thanks! |

RElease your lining from your pants. Lay the pants down with the legs wrongside out. Take a yardstick and straighten that line. It should be the same on the front as the back. Often I will make a change like this, take the part I cut off and lay it on the second leg to make sure that the alteration is the same. YOu also need to measure and make sure that the width of the pant at the bottom is the same on both pants BEFORE you cut the second leg. Since they are made on an assembly line, sometimes the legs are not sewn up by the same people and they may not have been cut out as the same exact size to begin with. You just repeat the changes in the lining. Your lining should be the same size, shape, etc as the pant. You may need to add something to the lining to make it hang straight on the pants she did. Fortunatly it is lining and it is not as easy to notice if it is pieced in the leg. This should not be a difficult change. pam
