I had this sent to me today. If anyone can help, post here, please do. I think she has a valid question.

Hi, I enjoy your tips and wonder if you could answer
a question for me. My area lacks of anyplace that
gives sewing lessons, and as a begginer could use a
place to learn. I have seen on-line sewing classes
offered on the net, and wonder if you know of any
feedback on how they are.

Thanks,

ciao, Giana

There are many websites that offer online sewing classes including this forum. Why don't you give this one a try? Also, it is helpful to have a good sewing book as a resource. One of the newest ones on the market is from the Singer Sewing Library's Photo Guide to Sewing (over 1100 photos). The cost is about $20 and well worth the investment as it covers all aspects of sewing. Happy Stitching!

I haven't taken any online classes for a fee, but I have found lots of articles and technique websites online for free and gotten a lot from them. Some that I have seen in the boards a lot and have visited:
home sewing association (http://www.sewing.org/educator/html/ed_guidelines.html) great for the basics.
Viking Sewing Room (http://www.vsmgroup.com/husqvarnaviking/sewingroom/sewingroom_us.asp) Click on sewing techniques for animated demos of techniques from hems to zippers, etc.
Simplicity sewing basics (http://simplicity.com/index.cfm?page=sewingBasics.html) more great basics for getting started.
Sew-Whats-New (http://sew-whats-new.com/CMS/index.php?option=content&task=blogsection&id=10) it's more than just a message board!
And check your local public tv station online to see if there are any sewing shows. I only get 2, with all I pay for cable tv. But they're really good ones!

Has anyone taken lessons from www.patternreview.com or
www.seeitsewit.com with Heather Claus? I don't know of others who give lessons. I think the lady wants feedback from those who have had the experience.

Mary,
I don't have any experience with online classes, but I know myself and if I did not have a (paper) reference guide, I don't think it would be a very pleasant learning experience.. In my lifetime , I have taught myself a lot of new skills from instruction books, leaflets, etc... But I have to have a reference guide because I always have a question they do not cover in the regular instructions.. (and sometimes , I have to do a lot of extra reading to find my answer.). So, if the online has unlimited access to someone for answers, I would say its a good way to go.. I guess answers on e-mail 24-7 would be too much to hope for, but its what we have here on this site, thanks to you , Miss Mary, our fearless leader..
