Hi,

I am going to make a wool suit soon, after I've practiced lapels, and I was wondering if I could wash the wool on a delicate cycle to make sure it won't shrink after sewing, and then wash in a machine after wearing too.

I ask because wool suits always seem to be dry clean only and I would much prefer a washable suit!

Thanks,

Katie

You should pre-wash the fabric the way you plan to treat the garment.
Wool can be washed on delicate, in cold water, lay flat to dry. If you are lucky it will be fine. Dry cleaning is easier, I think. But it is more expensive.

Most other fabric I would have said go for it, but I wouldn't suggest on rewashing a wool jacket in the washer. Skirts and pants yes but not jackets. I've done it before and wouldn't do it again. With the number of times we need to have jackets dry cleaned, I personally think it's worth the expense. There's always discounts at the end of each seasons so we can take advantage of it.
