So I made this shirt Simplicity 5359 (http://www.simplicity.com/index.cfm?cat=4&type=19&sec=0&id=58&startrow=1) (sorry don't know how to get it to go directly to the view). The peasant blouse, not the little bit of a shirt. But, I was thinking of embellishing it with embroidery, some flowers maybe what do ya'll think? Any suggestions? (I don't have an embroidery machine so whatever I do will be by hand). Okay, hopefully I'll be able to edit this with the picture of my actual shirt. All right here it is: my shirt (http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/pucktricks6802/detail?.dir=/2459&.dnm=71e5re2.jpg&.src=ph) Ticia |

Using stabilizer, you can do free motion embroidery (practice first), or hand appliqué some flowers or even paint what you want then set it with an iron or in the dryer. |

Hand embroidered flowers would be beautiful. Go for it. If you use a hoop be sure you go "in the well" to keep the white from getting dirty marks. Dorothy |

I think you'd enjoy a bit of embroidery around the neck or perhaps a few rows of ribbon, trim or even rick rack.

Another idea is that you can use machine embroidery thread and use your machine embellishments in rows around the neck. Bernina (unfortunately the site is down) has several suggestions for using this type of thing and they can be quite lovely. You'd just have to experiment with your machine to see what embellishment designs look nice together. I've seen from 3-even 7 rows of embellishments to make a lovely decorative boarder. This is something I never would have thought of doing on my own unless I had seen it done.

pam's post made me think of this: You can use narrow ribbon and embroidery with that. A little dash of color, and not too long sitting there with your hoop.

Lots of great ideas, thanks! What's "go in the well?" I haven't heard of that before. Ticia |

In the well is when you put the hoops on the fabric so that the right side is inside the hoops and the wrong side is outside -- on the drum made when you stretch the fabric over the small hoop. That makes the hoop marks on the wrong side -- where you want them. Dorothy |

I know that you probably don't have all the stitches they show, or you probably have different built in stitches on your machine, but this will give you an few ideas on how to combine machine stitches to make a design. I'm not very original and I had not thought of this (by myself), but seeing some of them stitched out gives me some ideas.... pam

I don't have many fancy stitches on my machine. But I used a double needle and different widths of wavy stitches and zig zags to decorate some Capri pants last summer. I used white thread on black pants and they look really good. But, being a hand stitcher myself, I really like the idea of hand embroidery on a peasant shirt. Unless you have a lot of fancy stitches like those in Pam's link. That's awesome. Dorothy |

If you have access to a good crafts store, here is another idea.. You can purchase the waste canvas used with counted cross stitch and embroidery anything you can find a pattern for.. (thousands are free on the internet) You just baste the waste canvas on your surface and start embroidering.. When finished just moisten the canvas and pull the threads out with tweezers.. Water dissolves the glue holding the threads together.. (every 5th thread on this waste canvas is blue, otherwise it looks like ordianry needlepoint canvas.)

I was going to say that Libby! It would look well on a peasant shirt - I've seen little cross stitch people holding hands around the neck or simple holbein stitch (like running stitch) to do blackwork would also look good. Assisi work on waste canvas would go down well too.

I think hand embroidery will be great.first roll several times (about 10-15 times)around yr needle, then pull yr needle out though the threads u rolled just now tightly, then stick down the fabric. repeat the steps 3 or 4 times so it appeared like a flower. embroider some leaves around the flower at last. i am not a native speaker. i don't know whether i've make the steps clear. hope yr shirt will be more beautiful after yr graet work. |
