Hi Ladies, Looking for advice on how to hang quilts. I have 2 quilts I would like to hang. One is finished; one is not. The finished one is 72x72 and I'd like to hang it in my bedroom. I have a rod and 2 sconces, but I'd like advice on the best way to prepare the quilt for hanging. Should I use a sleeve, tab loops or some other method so that the quilt doesn't deteriorate from its own weight? And, what is the best way to attach the sleeve or loops? Also, last night I finished the top for a 40x40 wall hanging quilt I plan to give to a friend next week for her birthday. Same questions apply here. The only difference is, since the second quilt is not finished yet, should attaching the hanging method be any different? I know that you ladies have lots of experience with quilting. I've seen some of your photo buckets. I just got a digital camera for Christmas and plan to start one too. I love to see your creativeness, and I want to share. Thanks, Sweetpea |

I usually make a "hanging sleeve" for any wall hangings that I have made. I really haven't hung large quilts...they just lie around...on beds. (hee hee) Every quilt show I have been to the quilts hang with a sleeve. You could do tabs but if the quilt is large, you will probably get distortion from the weight hanging from the tabs. Here are some tips on ways to make the sleeve... http://www.quilttownusa.com/mom/sleevebeginners.htm http://craftandfabriclinks.com/TIPS/hangsleeve.html http://www.mccallsquilting.com/artheblk/603_hangingsleeve/ TTFN from

HeyJudee, Thanks for the links. I finished the wall hanging last night and all I have left to do is add my quilt label and the sleeve. Thanks for the links. I'll check them out and hopefully get that taken care of this evening. I plan to give the wall hanging as a birthday gift on Wednesday to a very dear friend. Your help is much appreciated. SweetPea |
