I don't remember. They looked like professional labels. I'm sure that if you look around on the "net" you can find something like them. The quality was excellent. They were white with a gold braid around the outside. I put my company name on them and town/state where it was located. The stitching was in blue. After I gave up my business I think I destroyed the order blanks. The internet wasn't very "in" in 1992 and I think that I either found the name of the company in the back of a sewing mag, possibly "Sew News" because I happened to have a subscription back then, or I may have found a form to order them from some place like Hancocks. I know that they didn't come from Hancocks (store) because they were custom. A min. order was 250 I think they might have been about $30.00. They more than paid for themselves in repeat and referral business. When I closed the business 7 years later, I only had about 2 left.

Also, If you get into apparel. I would suggest that you invest in plastic bags for your business. Not only do they protect the clothing when you finish, it also makes a better impression with the customer. I bought a roll of dress length bags from Atlanta Thread and Supply and then I had a deal with a local dry cleaners who would sell me suit size for 10 cents each and evening gown length for 15 cents each. I would buy about 25 evening gown bags and about 15 suit bags at a time. I always rolled my plastic bags on wrapping paper rolls because if they are wrinkled or folded they look left over.

Hey Pam -

Thanks for the idea on the bags - I'd been wondering where I could get some! I checked out Atlanta Thread & Supply, and they have a great online catalog - and the bags are very reasonable!

For anyone else interested:

You're very welcome. They have some other things that you might need as time goes on. They cater not only to the home seamstress but the large scale factories and dry cleaners too so they have very practical items.

I had my husband make a holder for my plastic bags, interfacings and medical paper. It was on the wall of my other house. When we moved here I didn't have room for it. I've just moved into a larger sewing room but haven't gotten it out of storage yet. However, it was made like my stabilizer rack in my sewing room pics. I had it set up so that my interfacings and medical paper would roll out over and from the end of my cutting table. If you'd like an idea of what it looked like a picture the stabilizer rack is located in these pictures of the small sewing room. It was just a little larger than this one.

You can see it in the last picture. It is a pretty simple but works very well.

Now that is a really great idea! I'll have to print it up to show dh so he has an idea what would work for my sewing room.

Thanks for the ideas!

It has a shelf and a mounting board going across top and a mounting board on the bottom to keep it together and give you a place to anchor it. I had planned to put a cover on this one (I use it more than I realized I would so I will probably never cover it) so I had Ken put a board across the bottom to box it in but in the original I did not so I could put the last roll lower.

You can make your hole equal distances or different, depending upon your needs. Just measure from the top of the hole where the dowel rod will go through to the bottom of the largest roll and add about 1/2 inch for "ease". You may want to put your largest on the bottom and leave it open so you can mount more rods.

I used 1in rods in my larger case and only 3/4 in the stabilizer case. I painted this one white because I didn't have the same color as the room to paint it and it was moved, but the first one was the color of the room and it looked nice without being too "bold". I extended the top a little bit so I could put things on the top shelf and not knock them off.

I have seen them at places like Hancock fabric and JoAnne's, well the order forms. I haven't looked online yet though. I am planning on it soon though.
