I am looking at purchasing my first machine and have a few questions. Price range under $1000. I like the Singer CE 200 a lot. Can I embroider pocketbooks and koozies things that would require and arm on a machine like this and if not can you reccomend one.

I have the CE100 which is basically the same machine minus some of the regular machine stitches.
Are you planning on embroidering premade items? There are many gadgets out there that will fit almost any embroidery machine that hold the extra fabric out of the way. An easier way to me would be to make the items and put the embroidery on before you sew the various parts together.
The way you worded your question makes me wonder if you are looking for a machine that has a free arm like you would use for sewing the hem on a pant leg. If this is the case, that is just not how embroidery machines work. As far as I know they all require a hoop to embroider and that the fabric be secured within the hoop.
The CE's are a great machine for the price. I love mine and have only had it since Christmas.

The only embroidery machine I've seen that can embroider on something round, without the garment/whatever having to be taken apart, is the Brother (6 needle pro) it has a cap hoop for it and can do round objects. It's also between $8000-10,000.

If you want to use a regular embroidery machine to embroider purses or whatever....listen to Pudge....you NEED a hoop for all home machines. They DO not embroider without one. (unless you're doing simple built-in stitches, hearts, flowers, zig-zag, etc).

You can embroider on koozies and pocket books with limitations. You must be able to get the area you wish to embroider on in a flat position with no other layers under it. A hoop must be used but you don't necessarily put the item in the hoop. Your dealer will be able to explain this better in person.
I am a Singer dealer and have been very pleased with the CE-100 but it is not what I would recommend if you are planning to be embroidering on leather or other heavy fabrics. You will probably find that you need to spend a little more than you are planning if you want something that will hold up on those fabrics.
Check with your local dealer. Ask specific questions and have him/her demonstate what you need it to do. The lower priced machines may do what you ask but may not hold up very long under the strain. It is a lot less expensive to get the right machine the first time.
Have fun or don't do it, Tom
