I want to buy some high-end faux fox fur. I would like to make a lined winter jacket. The fabric is 60 wide and there are only 2 yds available. I thought a short jacket with a zipper instead needing overlap for buttons might be able to be made with the limited yardage. Does anyone know of any pattern like this? I couldn't find what I was looking for at any of the big pattern companies. I saw a couple in Neu Monde that might work, but they aren't exactly what I want. I didn't check men's patterns at any sites though and perhaps I should as the style is not particularly feminine.

Can or should you use princess darts with this fabric? It appears to have some length to the fibers so it isn't closely cropped like you might see with faux beaver or faux mink.

Is this fabric difficult to work with? Any helpful hints? Thanks!

I have never tried using faux fur but check out the jacket/coat patterns at www.macpheeworkshop.com They have lots of outerwear choice and probably have something that will work. If you call them they can also give you lots of good info and direct you to good info sources.

I have used many of their patterns. They cost $6 each and are multisized printed on newsprint. They are usually simple shapes with clear directions and with the right material turn out stunning.

Have fun!

Thanks, Melanie! I didn't know about that pattern company. They have a ribbed bomber jacket that is the closest I've found for the jacket I envision. I appreciate your help. CJ

Have you tried going through the patterns at www.sewingpatterns.com? or www.monsterpatterns.com? They have lots of different companies. Also, Jalie has some great patterns as well.

Thanks so much for the links. I didn't know there were so many pattern companies and I am delighted to find them. Jalie had a jacket I liked for my project. This is a great forum!!
