I'm the QUEEN of Mardi Gras and you are my subjects!!!!!!

Dorothy, I never went to Mardi Gras every year when I lived in Chalmette. Although I did go to Bourbon Street a few years back one Mardi Gras night and had to throw away a new pair of tennis shoes after that little endeavor. When you go in the French Quarters on Mardi Gras it's like a sea of people and you don't walk down the street you are pushed while being smashed against each other. People you don't know are in your face trying to kiss you with alcohol reaking from their breathes while another person you don't know is against your back doing the same thing. Sort of like human sandwiches. Not my kind of fun. Then if you look up on the balconies you will get a birds eye view of someones private parts while they are trying to get beads from the people below. Nahhhhhhh I'll stay home on that day and barbecue and watch it on TV. It use to be fun when they had parades in Chalmette on Mardi Gras day it was more like a family thing. Everyone went out to the parade route and after the parade they would barbecue on the neutral gound (the median). But we haven't had a parade on Mardi Gras day for a long time, about 10 years now.

Now for St Patrick's Day and St Joseph's Day we had a big parade where they would throw vegetables, that was really fun. I caught about 20 cabbage one year and carrots, potatos, bell peppers, everything to make a stew. It was called the Italian, Irish parade. Lots of fun.

I would advise anyone coming to New Orleans for Mardi Gras with a family to go to the parades in the suburbs. They are not as wild as the downtown ones.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

So I guess that means you won't be going?
I always wanted to go to New Orleans but not during Mardi Gras from the films I've seen.
I've heard the jazz festival is a much better time to go.

No Dorothy I'm not going. Jazz fest is a nicer time to come to New Orleans. If you come bring lots of sun screen and bring clothes for warm weather. Jazz Fest is during our spring time and it's sometimes cool and sometimes very warm. You never can tell what you are going to wear until the day of the fest. The humidity is very high here in New Orleans and it can get very sticky. Be ready to stand or sit on the ground if you don't bring a blanket or a portable seat. The fest is out in the open with hardly any shade so it can get uncomfortable depending if you are use to being in the sun or not. Our newspaper site is www.nola.com if you'd like to keep up with the fest.

Someday, Susie.
Right now we are seriously looking at a move south.
This weather here is just getting to my aging bones.

I hope not too far south Dorothy. Those hurricanes will get you here. lol Now they are reporting on the news the other day there was a 5.0 earthquake in the Gulf of Mexico just south of New Orleans. What next????? The low temp here last night was suppose to be around 26F and this week the weather is suppose to get back into the 70's for highs. Spring??? Maybe soon.

Susie --
If I hear of a hurricane coming I will toss the Pfaffs in the Mini Cooper and off we go. Won't have room for anything else in the car -- but I don't really need anything else.
Well --- maybe my husband, if he's been good.

Hey I know what's important. I had to bring hubby, he knew how to pull the trailer that was carrying the car that had my machines in there. If not for that I would have left his butt.... that would have gave me more room in the truck for more fabric. :bg: Nah he's a keeper.
