I'd like to make you and your group aware of The Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative, a program to raise awareness and fund research for Alzheimer's disease. It has two parts: a traveling art quilt exhibit interpreting Alzheimer's in fiber art that will tour the US for three years, and an on-going sale of small art quilts. All proceeds will go to Alzheimer's research. The deadline for submitting a quilt for the traveling exhibit is June 5. The prospectus is at www.AlzQuilts.org.

I thought perhaps your readers might also be interested in using their talents to make "Priority: Alzheimer's Quilts." These are very small mini-quilts (maximum size: 9" x 12") named for the urgent need for research dollars and for the USPS priority mailers used to send the donation quilts to the buyers.

I hope you would be willing to pass along this information in your next newsletter.

Many thanks for helping me spread the word,

Ami Simms

I took a look and it sounds like a good project to do....it is smaller than a regular quilt block so shouldn't take a great deal of time...at least not as much as a reqular quilt would. I just might do one for them. Now to come up with an idea....

Adva...Great! I'll be on the look out for it. I've thought of what I will make but I have to find some time. I have to make a baby shower gift for another niece first. Shower is Mar. 4th so hopefully after that...

I am glad to see this post. My mom died from this disease. Before she died, she was no longer the person she used to be. As an only child, it was truly hard for me for her not to remember me. This is something that I can truly do that will continue to help fund a worthwhile cause. Glad I saw this and thanks for posting this information. This is a quilt project I can do.

The really disturbing thing now is my dad has now been diagnosed with the illness and day by day it continues to take over.

Great job Adva!
I recently noticed your name in the back of a book I have of pink ribbon quilts.  For some reason when I was looking at all the names of people who donated a block, I just thought to look for Adva. :bluesmile

Thanks Judy and Lori,
I enjoyed making them, but they are not raising too much money. I'll try to come up with something better for next month.
Lori, I remember making a block for the Cure, but I had no idea i would be mentioned in a book ! is the name of the book "Pink Ribbon Quilts"?

I'll try my best, but I doubt i'll remember what I made. The book was a 2002 publication i think...... What I remember tho is that my guild made it a challenge for the members, blocks were voted on and my block won. I got a monetary prize!

yeah, go on...:) it won't take long. the size is to be only up to 9"x12", so you can even make a fabric postcard look-alike.

Adva, really cute quilt. Nice dedication too.

I still haven't done one. I'm working on my tree block for the Advent quilt and I've started free-motion quilting a quilt that I have had pinned since last summer. I've got to retire so I will have more time to work on my projects. :bluewink: Some day it will come!
