hi, I just found this group and I think it is awesome. I have a 1yr old daughter who is wearing 24 mos clothes, I have attempted to sew some clothes for her. I am awful at doing patterns, better at following instructions. I am wondering if any of you know of any free instructions for some of the addorable boutique items we see on ebay? I have bought pillowcase instructions and peasant dress instructions. I am going to attempt a halter top out of bandanas, I would love to make her some capris, the last time I attempted I sewed the crotch up Thanks, Amy |

Amyo, hi and welcome to Sew Whats New. Try a simple pair of capris. When you run into trouble, come here and ask your questions. We help everyone who asks. Kids clothes are a great way to learn. My kids wore some very interesting clothing. LOL.

Welcome to SWN. You'll enjoy all the folks here-we have lots of answers usually for you. I dont' know of any free patterns for children on line but I'm willing to be that someone out there does.

If you get a pants pattern that requires you to sew up both inner leg seams and then insert one leg into the other with right sides together you can almost assure yourself that you'll never sew it up wrong again. That pattern is so fast and easy you'll have dozens of pairs made in no time. If you have a serger you can do almost all of it on the serger. This is how I make all the pj's and lounge pants for my DGK's. I have used the Sew Easy patterns and the patterns for Dummy's. Both are very easy to start out on. |

Another idea is to go to the bookstore or library (if you can find it at the library GREAT, because then you can copy the relevant sections), those have wonderful instructions. I love the instructions in them and it'll work great for making your kiddo's clothes. Ticia |

Second hand stores or thrift stores seem to have lots of kids patterns for really cheap.

Check the archives on this board for that. I know one of the ladies has posted a couple of times about how to make a little girl's dress using elastic thread to shape the bodice. Super simple, and should be fine for that size.

On Feb 26 the McCalls patterns will be $1. |

I had posted on another thread here that I "inherited" a truckload of patterns. I am willing to send them just about anywhere just for the cost of shipping. I could look thru what I have and pick some simple patterns out in whatever size you might be needing if you would like.
