I hope I'm in the right place? I have a singer 237 Fashion Mate that runs great, the only problem is that it's missing some bobbin parts. In the bottom of the machine where the bobbin case goes, there is nothing, just an empty cavity. I think I need to buy some bobbin spools and a bobbin case. I also seen in the parts list a bobbin hook, do I need to buy this part too? I'm not sure what parts I need, but it looks like I may need everything that has to do with the bobbin itself. I can't find any breakdown sheets on line to show me what went inside this bobbin cavity. Can anyone help me out? |

I have a Fashion Mate 237 but I'm not quite sure what you're saying??? Are you saying the entire bobbin assembly (race, spindle, etc.) are missing? There is also a round metal case with a hook on it that holds the actual bobbins that goes inside the shuttle, race, etc. assembly. Patsy Patsy

When the needle goes through the silver top plate, it goes into a roundish metal thing that the bobbin case goes into. It has a black plastic piece on it that swings open so you can put your bobbin case in, then you can close it to lock everything in. Everything inside this metal part with the black plastic piece on it is gone. I have no idea what parts go in there. I think the bobbin spool, bobbin case, and a part called a bobbin hook is gone. I'm not sure if these are the only parts that go in there. I'm very new at this |

Sounds to me like you need to take it to a repair shop or your nearest Singer dealer. A Singer dealer would probably be able to get the parts for the bobbin assembly rather easily or there are several yahoo groups that are specifically for the repair of older and vintage Singer machines. Don't feel that way. Just think of it as going through a learning phase. We all started somewhere and that was at the "beginning". Patsy Patsy

Check out the yahoo group wefixit - they call themselves sewing machine shade tree mechanics. Someone may have the parts you need or have a source of non singer (read cheaper here) parts that will fit. There was a 237 question there yesterday. I actually had my hands on an nice 237 yesterday fixing it up for a flylady friend.
