Well I finally got my Ultimate Box and downloaded the Embird. I must say I think I've created a monster!! I am having way too much fun making all sorts of stuff, emroidering bibs, tshirts, whatever I can find, spending hours looking for embroidery patterns, playing til my neck hurts. I have discovered that there is a huge difference between Sulky and Guterman embroidery thread. The Sulky is 200% better, I'm finding the Guterman is shredding on me especially if it is used for outlining. I also discovered that the reason my thread was twisting is the instruction book has you put the thread on so it clockwise, and when I turned it the other way it comes off beautifully, which may have been another reason the thread was shredding at the end. I'm still on the trial Embird, but can't decide if I want the alphabet or digitizing add on next. SO, after all that yakking - who has the alphabet add on and when you get it, can you use any alphabets, like will it take the ones off your computer and use those??

I'm glad you're having fun! I love Embird as well.

If you're talking about Font Engine, then yes, you can use any TT font that you download. However, some of them digitize better than others. If they have fuzzy edges or little wispy things they don't digitize well.

The digitizing studio is great too. I think I would like to take a class or get a tutorial sometime, but I managed to figure it out on my own. I'd just like to get to know it better.

I purchased several of the basic alphabets but not the digitizing or font engine. There are so many designs on the internet that I've never felt the necessity to learn to digitize.

For those considering Embird - the software is OK but the technical support after the sale is nonexistent. I bought it and sent 2 seperate questions to them about 3 times over the course of a week and a half. Never heard a thing back. So I finally got frustrated enough to send an email requesting a refund of my money. Sure enough - they replied to that email.

Of course the answer was "no" -- I knew that before I sent it. But that demonstrates that they were receiving my emails. Just choosing to ignore the support requests.

The funny thing is - I sent them a question during my trial period and get a pretty quick response (1 day). I guess once they got my money they figured they didn't have to spend any more time on me.

Personally - I would not reccomend this software. Not because there is anything wrong with it, but because I could not reccomend giving money to a company who refuses to stand behind it after the sale.

Just one customer's expierience...

I thought that the tutorials on the website were pretty good, I actually just found them today, but haven't had to email them yet.

It's unfortunate you've had a bad experience with Embird.. have you joined any of the Yahoo groups for Embird?? There are lots... everything from groups devoted to basic embird, embird beginners, to groups devoted to STudio or Sfumato... usually, Dusan is very good about answering questions, so I'm a little suprised... Font Engine is probably some of the best money I've ever spent with this hobby.... and yes... you can take true type fonts from your computer and turn them into stitch files... some do work better than others...and like any other program... you need to take the time to learn it... there are lots of tutorials out there... you might want to check out the tutorials offered by Carolyn Keber on www.secretsof.com, and don't forget to check the yahoo groups.... as I mentioned, there are tons of them devoted to Embird and its plug-ins...

Hi Bridesmom...I am now working with the CD trial of Embird...so far I love it...I am mostly resizing and changine formats to PES...I am thinking of purchasing it....but although I am an artist and digital artist and use PSP and other paint programs for some reason the embird digitizing scares me LOL...I don't know why...I hope someone can tell me that it is easier than it looks...I was sad to hear that they do not respond to help....any good company worth it'd duff would.....I also agree that there are so many good designs on the net....many are free.....I have had great success with what I found on the net so far....I love Ann The Gran...she has some nice designs for free.....ok got to run.....have a great day everyone....:) Ria

I highly recommend Embird. I've always got my emails answered but OTOH I've never emailed for help but relied upon their online tutorials or the tutorials I've bought from http://www.Secretsof.com .Like was said above there are many yahoo clubs for each part of Embird. I have Embird, Studio, and cross stitch. I do want to add Font Engine but I really don't do alot of lettering so keep putting it off.

I'm still on the trial period, but will be purchasing it as soon as I get my tax refund, and getting either the digitizing or font engine, can't decide which yet. I found a neat free program on threadartist.com that will send you a text embroidery design that you create for no charge, you are limited to 3 a day and 25 letters per design. Saves it in only a few formats, but has a nice little video clip to explain how to use it. I've done about 8 so far and can add them into the design I already have with Embird. This stuff is so addicting, I can't get to my sewing cause I'm embroidering so much!
