8399 Sim was a costume pattern for the dress from the titanic movie. you can see the dress pattern at this eBay auction ( not mine) http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-SIMPLICITY-TITANIC-DRESS-COSTUME-PATTERN-SZ-16-20_W0QQitemZ8258829795QQcategoryZ116690QQssPageNam eZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem As I no longer have the pattern. I made the red dress. Anyhow I was looking at my Daughters Dress I made her back when she was in 7th grade ( 5 years ago) and I found a 2 BIG rip in the tulle (which may be due to how it was stored, on a hanger) I need to know how to repair the tulle please.. I think that replacing would work, but the tulle is also attached to the bust area. and would not be a good idea to remove. view photos: http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c86/Christina_in_ok/hole2.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c86/Christina_in_ok/hole.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c86/Christina_in_ok/Front.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c86/Christina_in_ok/backofdress.jpg DB

I don't think it's possible to repair tulle without it looking repaired. Unless you put something OVER the repair. (lace, etc) Tulle is very fine to begin with and you can't really handle it roughly without it showing and being a mess.

I don't have a clue how you'd repair tulle, but the dress is beautiful!!

that is what I was thinking, I think the only way to repair it is to just buy more tulle, and remove the fringe and the ribbon. then place it on the new tulle. its been five years since I made that dress, and I am not 100% sure how I put the bust and tulle together. I think I could repair the left long side rip, which the repair would be hidden buy the black lace. but the middle is another story. I know one thing never let it hang on a hanger for 5 years, which I think is what caused it, I think the weight of the fringe broke down the tulle. now I wish I kept that pattern DB

Could you cut out a portion of the tuille that is damaged, change out the tuille with something else (lace or tuille insert), cover the repair with ribbon(s) or more lace, top and bottom? If that would work, you could spare yourself the trouble of taking it all loose.

Nevermind...I thought I was seeing something that was less damaged than it was. I don't think that you can repair it without taking it apart. The tuille has probably just gotten too rotten over time. Some fabrics just don't wear as well as others. It is a lovely dress though.
