Help! I'm using the 3D embroidery software with my Platinum 950E. When I resize an image and then embroider it, the outline (which is usually the last stitching) is not on the edge of the design. It looks fine on the software program and when I print it out. Does resizing it really mess up the outline? What could be causing the outline to shift? Thanks! Melinda I am tending to think the reason your outline is stitching out in the wrong area is your stabilizer. If your fabric is not properly stabilized and/or hooped, the fabric will stretch as it's embroidering the body of the design and when the outline starts stitching, the entire design has shifted. Also if you have a case of bouncing hoop...those who don't support their BIGGER hoops, will get outline shift. Like Patsy said...STABILIZE...you may think it's Ok, but you might actually need MORE. More is always better than too little.

I used a tear away stabilizer, I think medium-weight, and the canvas was not loose in the hoop. This happened another time when I was working with fleece. I'll do more research on the stabilizers, thanks for the thought! Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's sewing machine.

My first inclination is to say that it is the stabilizer too...the stabilizer should match the weight of the fabric. Even with medium weight fabric, my dealer recommends 2 layers of tightly hooped stabilizer...and I agree. If the outline is right in some places and not in others you can almost be assured that it is the stabilizer. On the other hand, if you go up more than 10 percent or down more than 20 you can have all kinds of problems with your pattern, not the least of which is outlines being off. By the time you get a pattern there is no way to know if the pattern has already been increased, decreased or how many times the pattern's format has been changed. In some cases, the designer makes the other formats only from the original, sometimes they are converted to one format, then another and another, like a chain. That can mess up a design before you even get it. Sometimes you just flat get a bad design where the outline is off anyway (not often). If that is the case, if you open it in software you should be able to see that the outline is not right. pam

I just finished downsizing a pattern that looked ok, then it really screwed up while doing it on the machine. I thought it was maybe me, but the 2nd time around I realized it probably was the downsizing, even though I did the ratio thingy, you know where it keeps the ratio as it downsizes. Funny thing too, my sister who embroiders like crazy said to be careful when downsizing, that it may happen.

Thanks ladies! I still have so much to learn about machine embroidery. I was trying to embroider on a tote bag, and the design came out great, just the outline was screwed up. Perhaps someday I'll finish the outline by hand. The design looked fine on the software program, but I'm guessing I did shrink it too much. I'm taking a software class this weekend, so I'll be prepared with questions! Off to scout out books... Thanks again! Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's sewing machine.
