Hi, I am new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself and also ask a quick question..
My name is Julie and I currently live in Columbus, GA where my husband is stationed at Ft. Benning and in the Army. I work part time as an RN on post and have 2 children, ages 15 and 21 months.
I have been primarily making bags, some jumpers for the little one and the such. I used a pair of her too short overalls at Christmas and decorated them with applique candy canes, ric-rack and ribbons and they turned out so-so. Now it's almost Spring and she has yet another pair of denim overalls that are fitting well everywhere but are getting too short. So--I am considering using that pair for some cute "Easter" themed overalls. My question is--does anyone have any wonderful ideas? I have thought and thought and haven't come up with anything that is unique. Thanks in advance! Julie

Do you embroider? You could embroider something on the flap of the overall (the thing at the top - having an airbubble moment) and on the bottom of the legs as well, bunnies??? even cutting them to capri length, jumbo zigzag trim would be cute too, saw some chenille zigzag the other day that I'd like to try on something.

Oh almost forgot, Welcome!!!! (it was a rough day!)

If you don't want to embroider you can get a fabric printed with bunnies or chicks or something Eastery -- or perhaps just spring flowers or something -- and applique them on with a satin stitch.
If you back them with iron on interfacing it gives them a little dimension that looks good and helps keep the edges from fraying so you can sew them on with a straight stitch or by hand.
Rick rack is very popular right now and comes in pretty patterns.

You might try browsing on the net at different children's clothing sites, pattern sites and also on e-bay and see what is out there that you like and get inspired from them. Also catalogs are good, magazines, ect. I haven't got any small children but there is a ton of stuff out there, especially for girls.

If she likes jumpers you can cut the bib off & add a skirt. Just measure double the width, gather & sew to the bib, then hem. Denimn goes with almost any fabric. You could make some shorts to go under that match the skirt.

OH my--I feel so welcome!! Thank you all for the great advice about my little one's overalls. I don't embroider but want to learn (along with knitting, smocking and loads of other things!)
I bought some really cute bunny material that I intended to make a jumper out of but I may use some of it (I have plenty of it) for her overalls. I hadn't thought at all about cutting off the bib and making a jumper at all (thank you!)
I had originally planned to sew today after church but it didn't happen.
Hope you all have had a great Sunday and thank you all SOOOOO much! I know already I am going to love this forum! Julie

Just catching up here. If the overalls fit nicely except they are a little too short, you could sew on a row of 1/2 or 3/4 or 1 inch gathered eyelet. that will extend the wear for, oh, maybe a couple more months.

Thats exactly what I was thinking you could sew two rows of ruffles on the bottom and put a ribbon on the top of the ruffles. Here is an example... (http://cgi.ebay.com/Boutique-Cheetah-overalls-custom-sz-3T_W0QQitemZ4839233759QQcategoryZ79714QQrdZ1QQcmdZ ViewItem)
I think these are super cute

I made these overalls for my daughter last Easter.

I used Chenille for the Bunny and made the flower he was holding 3-d. I put easter eggs and more 3-d flowers on the back.
