What is everyone working on. What was the last thing you finished (or shipped off to the land of UFOs) What's next?
I just finished brightening up my sewing room with new red cushions on the chairs at my work desk and my sewing machines. I even made a pillow of some needlepoint that has been waiting for months.
I'll start the jacket -- discussed on this board -- next. Probably today, maybe tomorrow.
After that I think I will finally get around to making Lucy the dog a new fleece jacket. I've put it off because of the beautiful English jumper she wears but with the snow melting every couple days and the ground left muddy she needs something she can get dirty. I don't let her wear the jumper in the mud.

I finished a baby quilt with matching pillow. Got it done and shipped out before the baby was born. Made a purse for my aunt. Now working on the x bag. Hope to get it done on Tuesday. Than, I think I better work on UFO's.

I'm making a :Canada: shirt for my husband. His office is celebrating international day on Wednesday, so I thought it would be a nice touch.

It seems the more I sew, the more intuitive I get about the process...e.g. last night I intuitively put the collar on incorrectly...twice. :bolt:
No wonder my projects take so long to complete. :whacky:
Take care,

I've been working on Cabbage Patch doll clothes, also some baby/toddler clothes. I'm trying to use up some of my fabric scraps.

Nice to know Lucy is still bouncing around inthe jumper -
I am just finishing the pancreas today for my digestive system - I am going to have to work out a way to arrange pictures it is awesome! The liver is so weird a shape - it has lobes! Almost as bad as when I knitted the moebius strip scarf.
Anyhow - I have a wedding dress to finish - finally pinned up the last hem and that will just be a sitting down hand finishing job.

Embarrassingly - I still have my advent quilt from Joannes lessons to finish up - I shall get that out of the way next. I have sashed the blocks and got one border around them but I want to put some more borders on. I added snowball blocks to the corners and bent my brain doing the maths to get the sashing to work with the central block but it is looking cool!

This last months Burda has some great skirts and tops in that I quite fancy doing as my "Mother of the Bride outfit" love this one http://www.burdamode.com/102_Jacket_122_B_Skirt,1270777-1000019-1318894-1318903-1319062,enEN.html or this top
http://www.burdamode.com/125_A_Blouse,1270777-1000019-1318894-1318897-1318987,enEN.html

then again - as I can't find fabric that sings to me ( you know what I mean) I might just go and buy something..

I made a shirt & matching boxers for DGS yesterday. I had to sew the buttons on 3 times to get them straight. Today I made 2 bowling diapers. (bags to carry & polish the ball). The first one I tried to match thread colors & my serger just wouldn't stitch right. I think they were old & different weights. I made a second one using white serger thread & it stitched fine. I will give them both to the person that asked for them & she can decide what to do with them. They both work fine just one looks really messy. DD is cutting out a skirt so tomorrow will probably be spent helping her sew it. It has a zipper & flaps on the pockets that she has never done. She is 14 & really does a good job after she learns something. Today we are going to a "Charm" party. They sell the charms for the new link bracelets much cheaper than in the store & they will custom make them with pictures. I am buying one for my MIL today. They have diabetic & heart condition charms. I will probably do her's as a key chain.

I still have the first of three quilts in the sewing machine bed, just don't feel like quilting it.

but I pulled it out to make two curling iron heat covers.

and I am painting DD's old room from a reddy color, just priming it right now.

I just cut out fabric for a skirt. It should come together quickly once I clean and oil the machine and give it a shiney new needle. After all that sewing in DD's room this winter--drapes and valences, tufted headboard, and bedsikirt, AND the vest and skirt outfit that I made her, she managed to get all weepy when she saw me working on a project that was for me instead of her! I just haven't really been in the mood to sew since putting up the wedding dress and the rest of the bridesmaid dresses, flower girl dresses, groom/groomsmen's ties and vests but it is starting to get better. About a week ago I finished a red cord tailored jacket for my dd along with a gored skirt with pleats in the back, billed newsboy cap and purse (with embroidery on both sides) to match.

I'm trying to finish an (easy) shantung suit for me and another cord jacket, black with short puffy sleeves for her.

A friend just brought over some fleece to make her significant other a robe which I made her cut out, she was slow and didn't get the pants cut out too. She wants some embroidery on that, so it will be after I finished the black jacket (almost finished).

The day is dreary, icy and cold here today (not much moisture so pretty slick..called off church) so I just took the day off and used some lovely Hatched in Africa Heirloom designs on an inexpensive pair of new jeans for my dd. Managed to split and combine a couple designs for the corners of the bottoms on each leg, added a small design to it on the other side of the seam, added a couple more on the leg and back pocket. After I finished I glitzed everything. They are really nice (esp. since I only paid $15 for them).

Hi all. Right now I am making a teddy bear out of fat quarters, working on 2 Easter dresses for my 15 month old g/d  (couldn't decide which one I liked better) and a quilt..first one...for my quilting class that I am taking. I also have 8 baby blankets all pinned ready to go and 6 cloth baby books all pinned up and ready to go.
If I had known that grandchildren were so much fun, I would have had them first!!

Dorothy I made my granddaughters little puppy (can't spell it but the taco dog) a coat with his name on it, Buddy. It came out so cute and was easy to make. http://www.sewing.circleofcrafters.com/freepetvestpattern.html The puppy in the pic looks just like Paiges' puppy. I made mine with a denim outside and a flannel lining. I have several more cut out for him.

I also am in the process of making chair pads for my kitchen chairs. I got some pretty fabric, wine and forest green strip. I am also making one more deco bed pillow for my bed. I found some beautiful fabric at Fabrixx in Covington, La.

What I'm hoping for is to get into a quilting class soon so I can learn to make some of the beautiful blocks I've been admiring in the books I have here at home. Anyone have the Quilt Bible from Singer? I bought it the other day and have been looking through it trying to make up my mind what block I'd like to make a quilt out of but can't decide. I'd love to make the hard ones but I'm afraid I'm going to have to start off slow with an easy block to start.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

I have a basket of UFO's to get too, but have been busy embroidering bibs for Miss Munch, my adorable GD.

Dmoses, what is a Canada shirt???? Is it made out of white fabric with red maple leaves??? Or hockey sticks??? Just curious!

I just made a cushion for my new step-dad's birthday - for his 'power naps'. And yesterday I got some lovely purple, yellow and gold tweed on sale, to make a Spring coat from (original 40s pattern- I love eBay).

I also just bought some vintage material from eBay that's gold satin with an orange embroidered pattern on. It's going to be made into a Vogue couture frock coat for going out at night. Warm and stylish!

Hi Laura,
I'm using a regular shirt pattern, but I designed it to be reminiscent of the flag. I am making it so the front and back are white, and the sleeves, yoke and collar are red(actually, the underside the collar and the inside of the collar stand(?) are white). I pieced a maple leaf for the pocket. I will post a picture when I finish.

It would have been nice to have some 'Canadiana' fabric, but that's not easy to find here in Texas, so I'm sticking with solids.

A couple of years ago, I made a Texas flag shirt for him, which was much admired when he wore it for 'Go Texans' day...well, we do live in Texas, after all. I also plan to make a shirt to represent Guyana, which is the country of his birth. That will be a little more difficult because that flag is more complicated.
Take care,
Donna

Hi all! Mother In Law---I just started a quilting class 2 weeks ago and I love it!! I don't know if you have any Joanns near you but that is where the class is. We are making a quilt called "Trip Around The World" and it is really easy. Instructor said that was the easiest one to start with. Hope this helps. Have a great day everyone!

Susie, that is the very first "quilting" book that I bought. I've made the card tricks wall hanging and it is hanging in my office at work. It used to hang in my stairway at home until I got a clock to put on the wall. I made the log cabin quilt pattern to make the Christmas quilt that I gave my sister
(here is pic) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/heyjudee/74593294/in/set-348651/). I still use that book to refer to methods of putting on binding. Love the pictures as I can see how things are supposed to work.

I've been working on a diaper/tote bag that opens out into a square to lie a baby on. It's to be given to my niece's baby shower on Mar. 4th. Also, have fabric to make crib sheets and some bibs. Donna, I know all about those intuitive processes...kept having to rip out when sewed zippers on with wrong colour thread and those pockets... just couldn't sew a straight edge...

After all the baby sewing, then I plan on finishing my Advent quilt.

Oh Judee they are beautiful. I keep picking up the book and looking at those quilts and thinking I can do this. Now doing and thinking I can is two different things but I think I can. I'll let you know when I finish one. I still have my siggy quilt top to put together that we did before Katrina hit us and I have the stack and wack top I did all the blocks for now that has to be put together so I have a lot started but none finished. I will do it all one day I'm sure. Thanks for sharing.

Judy, your quilts are so pretty and you do such a wonderful job. Thank you for letting us enjoy them with you.

I have been working on UFOs and have finished a turtle for a GD and will soon be finished with a X stitch for a son and made a couple burp cloths, using the pre-folded diaper, and a blanket for a friend's grandbaby.

I have been enjoying the light box my son made for me from my old scanner. It makes tracing so much easier.

Also, trying to learn the Wilcom Truesizer but at this point I am so confused and think I may never learn to use it. Some classes would surely help but none are available here. Actually, I don't know where to start. LOL

I made myself a bias skirt last night--all but them hem. I need to let that hang a little longer before I turn up a hem. I cut out a second one from the same pattern a little while ago. I'm going to use an invisible zipper on this one, so the process whille be a little bit different. Still, one of the quickest little skirt projects ever. Oh, And I have another project, a different kind of skirt, lined up for after that. I got my fabric online (first time) and I ordered extra. So glad, b/c they cut less than I payed for and it was cut very unevenly. I sent an email and let them hear about it, and they're going to re-cut and send to me again at their own expense. I think if the skirt works out well, then I'll make another for my sister. She could use the pick-me-up (see Family Always Comes First) about now, and I can't see using the same print of this fabric for another garment for myself.

Judee
Your quilts are very pretty, looks like you have been one busy gal also.
yesterday and today I made my neighbor friend three pairs of pajamas. I had made her one pair before and she like the one pair so well-""I kept seeing her in the one pair ""so now she has four pair!'''
Tomorrow I've gotta decide how I'm gonna finish quilting the 8 inch border of daughters log cabin.
I finally have learned not getting "any tucks" on my quilting. This is great!!
Loads of pins, over a thousand in a king size quilt,800 in queen. It always takes me 4-6 hours to pin a quilt,king/queen.
I believe I enjoy the quilting the most in the whole process.
I learnt how to make digitizuing patterns for my 9500 janome embroidery machine, from free coloring book pages, and clip art! I did A really cute
raggidy Ann. Most pattern I have don't have the photos outlined but every pattern I make has outlines. I even tried a real photo picture of my grandaughter but it didn't turn out very good. I need to learn more about this.
All my best to everyone
Cathy

I really think a long arm machine for quilting would be a better purchace then a frame.

I just finished a Spiderman sheet for DGS bed and have to finish the pillowcase. I also put ties on about 7 flannel baby bibs, and did decorative stitching around 5 more, NOW they need ties. I am sitting reading all the postings and am so tired from work, I don't know if I have any energy left tonight to sew...

I've hunted all over looking for night shirts made like sweat shirts for less than $30. I found some for $10...so I bought 3. I was soooo excited. My African Grey got mad at me, flew into the laundry room, found one and ate a hole in the top of it. I spent part of this afternoon embroidering over the hole...looks pretty good actually.

The first week of February I finished a lap quilt in the QIAD Winning Hands pattern using fabric in antique burgundy and beige rose colors for a b'day gift for a friend. This weekend I finished two wall hanging quilt tops using the Country Fair block from Lickety-Split Quilts by Laurie Bevan -- both in purple and yellow themes. One is for a b'day gift for another friend, and last night I got that one pin basted. Tonight I will start the quilting. I plan to do the second right after the first is finished. After that, I want to sew a few spring outfits and a spring coat from a light-weight pink checked Boucle I picked up at JoAnn Fabric for 60% off a while back.

By the way, I have any idea, but what exactly is a UFO.

I've been spinning wool and knitting boot socks from the spun yarn for my Uncle's large feet (men's size 12). I'm using size 3 needles, so it is taking a long time. Now I'm out of the yarn and need to spin more. I also have been weaving nine patch quilt blocks from my scrap yarn. It will be a scrappy lap throw when finished. I also have been working on a UFO quilt I started last year. For my birthday my DH purchased Electric Quilt 5 software for the computer. I played around with the quilt design I had made and ended up changing my whole plan for the quilt. Now I'm making 18 more blocks for the quilt. It will be a flannel raggy quilt when finished. I also have the Advent quilt to put together from the lessons here, a Xmas block swap quilt to do and another BOM that I did last year from a local quilt store. Also, for valentine's day I sewed up a few projects from my stash for the stash challenge. I also have been working on a customer's boat canvas that they left for me to do over the winter.

:bluewink:
Happy sewing/quilting/crafting

That is very sweet! It reminds me of a bowling shirt.

Did you just make up the pattern for your jeans purse? I'm planning on making a slouch / hobo bag soon, and in the pattern I have, I don't like the part where the body connects to the handles.

Thanks ladies.

Blackie,
Yes, as you can probably see, I started off with a pair of jeans. I cut the legs off, sewed across the bottom, added a lining with pockets, and cut the straps from the legs. The ends of the straps are inserted between the lining and bag, and have reinforced stitching at the waistline.

After all of my Christmas sewing, I've taken a break. I do have a fleece jacket cut out and have some shirts to embroider for my sister in FL. Mostly, I've been playing with some of my old/new software and have been practicing downloading designs. It's fun to do. Happy Stitching!

Wow Donna I'm impressed. Shirts, both of them look awesome. I wish my husband would wear things like that. He's a one kind of shirt man, golf shirts only. Unless it's a funeral then he wears dress shirts.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Thanks, ladies. My husband will wear anything I make for him(some of it just as 'house clothes' ), but likes the shirts. He usually wears polo shirts to work, since they adopted a more casual dress code. I still haven't found the best fabric for the shirts...the cotton is nice for its breathability, but wrinkles easily. I have looked for a nice cotton twill, but can't seem to find it.

Vickki, did you celebrate the men's curling win yesterday?
Take care,

Great looking shirts Donna!! Very creative. I just finished recovering my sewing room chair and making a cushion for my embroidery chair, the fabric matches the covers I made for all my machines. I then did some UFO's that were making me want to go crazy just looking at them. One was a fleece jacket that once done, ended up in the goodwill bin, I absolutely hate it. Wrong color for me, totally.
Then I was going to start on my corduroy jean jacket, but decided it was time to do some easy stuff, so made a bunch of bibs for the GD, and a pair of pink and yellow butterfly pj's for her for the summer. Now that I am into making more baby clothes, I can see I'll be doing that for the next while.

I finished a "puff Quilt" for the guest room and new drapes. Started a second puff quilt this morning and taking a break right now from it. I have also finished 6 Christmas gifts for Christmas 2006. After this quilt my next will be a bear paw quilt.

Donna, your shirts look awesome. If you don't mind me asking, what pattern did you use for them. We are Texans and my dh would love for me to do the TX shirt for him. And to get a pattern w/o a number is hard for me, since I can't actually touch it until it arrivesin the mail.

I like always have purses I am working on. I have a black background grape one I have cut out and a custom order cut out ready to sew. I also have the makings for a sponge bob memory board ready to go.

Thanks, purselady,
I used Simplicity 7330, but I don't think that is available anymore. Simplicity 7030 looks very similar, but any long sleeve pattern(I prefer one with a yoke) should work.

Rather than split the left front pattern piece, I sewed white and red fabric together first(just enough for the left front), and aligned the left front pattern piece so the red/white seam was just under the armhole. That way my pattern piece remained intact, and I avoided the worrisome measuring.
For the rest of the pattern pieces, just choose the appropriate colours according to the design of the flag.

Hope this helps.

I would love to make a purse someday.
Take care,
Donna

After re-vamping my sewing room I have started sewing up some summer outfits for my 2 yr old Great Niece. Right now I am making a outfit with John Deere Fabric, next will be Curious George and then Elmo.

Jan, don't feel bad about the Advent Quilt, I still need to finish mine!!!!! Hope Jo isn't reading this post!!!!!! :bolt:

Will move onto finishing up sewing some left over Christmas stuff I want to get done and out of the way.

Next will be making some suit jackets for DS, as he is taking on the "new campus look". Anything is better than torn jeans and baggy butts!!!!!!!

Also finishing up some knitting I have been doing.

A purple stretch velvet skirt and top with black chiffon flounces. It was originally for Christmas, but I ran into a problem, so hope to finish for a night out this Friday to a musical. (I bought new shoes today!) I'll take a pic soon. Also working on a pink chenille bath robe. :bluesmile

Here are some pictures of the bag (http://www.flickr.com/photos/heyjudee/sets/72057594072349894/).

Now, on to making some bibs and finishing up a set of crib sheets. :re:

It must be some type of bug going around, for the last few weeks I have been thinking about making work shrits (button) for DH.. I thought about it last year, but the wheels are rolling now..

I think I found a pattern too MC2447 for short and long sleeves.. Only thing I don't like is how the pocket looks..
Hmm Joann's has patterns on sale for sim. agian this weekend.. I may have to look at the patterns again, if I still dont' find a shirt for Dh from SIM, I could also buy a pattern that has a pocket he would like, and still use the MC LOL

I did buy some walmart broadcloth 65% poly /35% cotton, to do a test run on the shirt, and make sure I like the fit, before I make it with a higher cost fabric..
I have been told that a scrub fabric is what would be good for his line of work. Scrub fabrics is a blend of 50% cotton, 50% poly.
Now I just need to make up my mind on the fabric..

but I really don't even have any quilts finished up yet, and the reason behind that is my toe nail has re-dug into the toe, ( nail was removed today) so I cannot sew until it heals up a bit. ( yes, It gotthat bad ( not infected) that it hurt to put any pressure on my foot at all, and wareing shoes was out of the question.. I was told last year it was due to an fungal in my nail bed, but since the nail was removed, I did not take the meds, This time, I did.. since we have a new insuranace plan, I take it for 3 months ( my last fill will be before he is let go from the job)
yep, this is my 2nd time that same nail was removed, the first time was spring , last year..
so I am now on the road to healing..
( same toe nail was removed last year)
I have loads of trouble with my feet.. so I am really itching to get back to sewing again..

and the room I was painting is almost done now.. I am still doing some trim work painting and then I need to do a bit of touch ups...

but I am still dreaming and drooling.. Neat when you learn more about fabrics :) ON the shirt pattern I have to find one that is 3xl for my big boy..
he could use a 2xl but likes the extra room while he is working.. his chest is 52".

New to this site but I am finding it very useful. I am a "pagent mom" and realized it is cheaper to do the outfits myself than to pay someone. A upcoming St. Patricks wear pagent is keeping me busy. Cut out fabric for a pleated skirt and shirt today. Pants and top yesterday and plan on sewing tomorrow. Then comes all the frilly girlly stuff, rick rack, ribbions, bows, and lace. :monkey:

Sherri, Donna, Bridesmom, thanks all for your kind comments on the bag & my quilting.

Sherri, it is called a Zip and Stuff bag. It was on sewbaby.com but apparently they aren't planning on carrying the pattern any more. I just bought a couple of patterns to give to my DS and DSL.

Bridesmom, yes I did the flowers by free-motion. Usually, I just free-motion random flowers but since I wanted a more even placement of each flower, I drew a flower and two leaves then cut the outline on a clear plastic stencil I bought at Wal-mart. I used a Chaco-liner to draw the outline on the fabric and just free-motioned the line of flowers. In the beginning I drew the entire outline but as I got going, I would just mark the stem and the location of the flowers and leaves. Free-motion quilting is basically practice, practice and more practice....and I have done a lot of that. Check out some of the threads in the beginner and general forums. I know I have posted links to sites that have instructions for doing free-motion quilting - some are recent postings.

Real life has taken away all of my sewing time since the holidays were over. My DD has left the father of her child and is struggling to make a new life for herself and my darling grandson. I've spent every one of my days off from work since January 3rd driving her around and babysitting. I have made one throw pillow with some short pile faux fur that looks like a leopard for the little guy as he misses his cats very much (he says "mew" everytime he touches something soft and furry). It's now his special play pillow when he comes over to my house. The pillow was much easier to make that I thought it would be-I got a pillow form and just covered it with the fabric! I came out looking really nice. I have been WANTING to start a new shirt for my wonderful man and a pair of cordouroy overall for the little guy, but to date, nothing yet! I'm so bummed about it!

I haven't had much time or energy to sew lately. We have a snow (ice) day from school today so I was going to get a lot done but when I got out of bed I had a sinus headache that won't go away. DD got some fabric at Wal Mart yesterday for a spring skirt & I am anxious to start it but I know better than to sew when I am not feeling well. I always make dumb mistakes. I am hoping the meds. kick in soon then I will get started.

I went to the local fabric shop in Franklinton today with one of my old sewing buddies from Chalmette today and we bought the shop out. Not really but she has such good quality fabric at reasonable prices. I bought some fabric to make Kayla my granddaughter that is living next to us a blanket for her bed. They bought a new mobile home and will be moving soon so she needed a new blanket for her bed. It's pink fleece for the underside and a mint green, pink and white plaid for the top. Very pretty plaid. I also got some notions I needed. All in all I had a great time with my friends. My neighbor came along and ate lunch with us. I have them all hooked on sewing now.

Wow! I feel like I really accompished quite a bit this week. I've made my dgd 3 tshirt dresses, a tooth fairy pillow for my dgs, a set of placemats and napkins for my daughter, a heat pad and fabric covered bulletin board for my sister and just 10 minutes ago finished up a small (18 x 12) paper pieced wall hanging for me! Also did some computer crafting this week so all in all, feel like I've really accomplished some things. Headed back to work tomorrow though so guess I won't be getting too much more accomplished-certainly not at this rate anyway!

I got the skirt done except the hem & snap today. She loves it! I din't make any mistakes. The headache finally started to go away when I got moving. I guess I just can't go back to bed in the mornings. The first time I got up @ 5:30 I felt fine then I found out there was no school & went back to bed until 8:30 & that's when I felt sick. It felt so good to crawl back into bed but I guess it wasn't worth it.

Just finished knitting a sweater for my gs.it's too small :bang: so I started another one today...Finished a valance for the bathroom.other than that all I seem to do is clear snow piles and piles and piles...In the past week we have had about 80 cm.This morning in the 90 km wind and blowing snow I was trying to help my poor son get his car dug out so his car wouldn't get run over with the snow plow.It got stuck in the middle of the road...That was 5am this morning and I haven't got warm since.......I should have been born in a country with a year round hot climate....Oh well not to worry and least I could help.....

Lyn, All I can say is WOW I wish I had that much get up and go in me. Lately all I can do is buy fabric and want to sew. The only thing I've accomplished in the last month is a bread cover for my bread basket and then turned around and gave that away and a skirt for my GD. Now I'm going to make a blanket for GD for her new house when I feel like it. ggggggggggg

Hi all, I'm new to the board and I just LOVE it!! You're all so wonderful and good to learn from! I've been sewing for almost 3/4ths of my life, but now I'm really getting into learning how to make great fits, pattern alterations, tailoring, etc.

I have finished several skirts lately, Simplicity 4703 (C&F), 4546 (A) and McCalls 3341, 3830 (both view B). I have fabric for 3 more of the McCall's skirts but it's a heavy cold-weather fabric and I feel like Spring now!

Last night I started cutting out my very first Vogue pattern, 2561...I have 4 patterns that I'm dying to make, all Vintage dresses (Butterick 4512, 4513; Vogue 2561, 2267). My grandma always told me how difficult Vogue patterns were so I've always shyed away from them...and now I'm starting with an "Advanced" one (I'm crazy! ). I'm doing it on some cheaper fabric that I don't care much about though, so I'll probably be making it twice. I have some silky navy poly-blend with big white polka dots that I am saving for one of my vintage patterns. :bg:

And in a couple weeks I'm going to make myself a duct-tape dress form and make a sloper fitting dress. (I'm going to get the pattern for that today...$1 Butterick & McCalls' at Hancock today! And 1.99 Simplicitys at JoAnns!)

I made a cat rug for my YD gf who is having a baby this month. Simplicity 4993. It apple green, bright pink, and white. Came out so cute. Made some receiving blanket type of things with the leftover flannel. Been making some of the summer dresses from Sew Beautiful magazines that I have collected over the years. Got 4 done and am working on the old fashion apron and bloomers for the 2 YGD. Shall be starting on the GD Easter dresses as soon as I finsih the last apron. I have also been doing 2 different block of the months from our local quilt shop. One is Old Fashion Santa's from different countries and the other are snowman. They are all applique and that is not my cup of tea. But I am determined to do them and so far have been keeping up. In between, when I can get to my MD house I am redoing her bedroom windows. It isn't hard, just getting over there to work on her windows makes it harder. Next month I am taking a class at our local community college on fitting a blouse pattern to ME. Maybe if all goes well I will sew for me again. Been a long time since I have sewn for me now that the GC are here.

Wow, you are a very industrious sewer...and a great addition to our site! I hope you will be an active member and share you experience with those of us who are either just starting out, or restarting after many years of not sewing (this would be me! :whacky: ).

Well, I decided not to go out with my man last night to bowling (and I should have-he bowled his butt off for a 714 series  ) so I could do something with my sewing. I started cutting out the fabric for his new shirt using McCalls 4518, the retro Hawaii'n shirt. He likes the short sleeve style as he says they are very comfortable for bowling. I made him one last August which turned out pretty good, considering I had never made a garment for any adult other than myself before. The first shirt was made with some great "American Chopper" fabric from Hancock's; this one is blue flames on a black background from JoAnn's. However, I did get confused when I was cutting out the fusible interfacing...I have no idea which is the right side or wrong side of the interfacing  Oh well, guess I'll find out when I go to use it tonight.

Slopokes, if you hold your interfacing to the light you'll be able to see the glue. You can also feel it on most of the interfacing.

Hi Natalie and Summer,
Welcome to the site. Your projects sound very ambitious. You will find the sizing different on the retro patterns. I'm in the process of making my DD a suit for Easter by a retro Butterick pattern (can't remember the number :whacky: ) complete with side seam welt pockets. I'm using satin fabric with a polyester lining. I was intimidated at first but am more relaxed about it now. Have never tried heirloom sewing but love the Sew Beautiful magazines. Happy Stitching!

Ms Natalie,
I really like the Vogue Retro patterns. When I did sew for myself I made quite a few of them for work. It is true their sizing is different than others, but if you measured right you should have no problems. I thought Vogue fit better on me than the other big 3.

Slopokes, if you hold your interfacing to the light you'll be able to see the glue. You can also feel it on most of the interfacing.

I have tried to feel the difference between the 2 sides, but my fingertips are so rough and dry it's hard for me to detect it. I'm using Pellon Fusible--is the glue on the bumpy side or the shiny side...? I even checked the first shirt I made and it's been laundered and ironed so many times I can't tell anymore. :whacky:

The glue is on the bumpy side in little raised dots. I always have to double check when I use it too, both sides feel the same sometimes!

Donna,
I was so inspired by your denim purse, and you did such a nice job on the lining. How did you put the lining in?

It might just be my next project!

Hi Kim,

Thanks, I had fun making the purse, even though I was making it up as I went along. I will try to explain how I made the lining. If you have any other questions, or my explanation is not clear, feel free to ask again.

Trace the outline of the purse, front and back, to make a pattern.
From this pattern, cut a front and back lining.

To make the pockets, fold the patterns crosswise about halfway, and then cut those on the fold of fabric. (I also interfaced the pocket to give it some body).

Baste the folded pocket sections to the appropriate lining pieces, and then sew vertical lines to make the pocket sections.

Sew lining pieces front to back with right sides facing, leaving the top open.

Turn lining right side out. Turn purse inside out( strap should already be attached at this point).
Slip lining over purse.
Fold top of lining so that folded edge meets lower edge of 'waistband', covering ends of strap(so that ends of strap are hidden between lining and purse).
Handsew lining to purse, hiding stitches in the waistband.

Hope this helps.
Take care,
Donna

Thanks for the rundown Donna. It's the hand sewing that hides where you joined the lining and the purse so well! I really want to make this purse and when I do I will definitely post a pic.

Thanks again.

As you may have noticed I am struggling with a lined box bedspread. The last thing I sewed was a set of valances to match two small chairs in my family room. I recently finished my first pair of knitted socks. They came out perfectly. I will try to post a picture of each.

socks: Don't know why this is so large.

Now those are classic socks of which to be proud!
I've been given a load of yarn so I am making hats and gloves for shoeboxes(Operaton Christmas Child) seems weird now that the weather is turning nicer that I am knitting winter woolies! The daffodils have just come into bloom in my garden!
