I would like to make this pattern. The middle one for an upcoming skating carnival. I am wondering what the suggested fabrics are. I have ordered the pattern but am anxious to order fabric for it. If anyone has the pattern and would like to tell me the suggested fabrics. I would appreciate it.

the middle fairy or the middle pokahantas-looking one? I just checked simplicity's website and I see that, unlike most, they don't have the pattern back available. You could contact Simplicity by email--start at simplicity.com, and someone will get back to you, probably promptly, with the info you're looking for (I've done it and found them very helpful.). I'd start guessing with: lightweight fabrics, sheer is fine, depending on whether you're wearing a leotard under it, Stretch wovens ok, but prob not a stretch knit. Go ahead and ask them to give you yardage requirements while you're at it. It's too costly to guess on that!

Well if you're doing the wings...tulle and wire. The dress itself is probably sheer tulle OVER something lycra. With lace, beads, whatever you wanna add. (glitter...) Or a sheer 'lawn', sari type fabric...
If I were going to skate in this, I might make the wings smaller...if you have too much drag on the wings while skating, they'll likely PULL OFF or make rips in the garment.

Hi!! As I make skating apparel for a living, let me put in my 2 cents. All views are the same, if you look close. Just decorated differently or using different fabrics. The fairy one should be out of sheer fabrics, although using chiffon could be tricky. I personally hate working with it in the applications of costuming. Hemming it is a nightmare unless you are working on a straight (and I mean veerrryyyy straight) grain.
there is a fabric out there called glistenette, or lycra mesh that is suited to skating or performance wear. You can't get it in just any fabric store. I get all of mine at Spandex House in New York City or from a fabulous lady named Murielle of Murielle Roy & Co. in CT. They both have websites.

Also, keep in mind that this pattern is not cut for skating and will have lots of fabric involved, meaning that it will not fit close to your body. The ties that wrap around the waist is what is creating the close fit. Also, the wings should not be attached to the costume, as they will be heavier than the fabric of the upper bodice. Attach elastic to them and wear them around your shoulders.

Hope this helps. I have attached a photo of the sheer fabric I use. It stretches like a dream and is quite strong.

We are buying wings. I was thinking of using a irridescent fabric rather then a sheer fabric because the girls are 10-12 and their parents might murder me if I put them in see through costumes (again) :bg:. We were looking for a pattern that was loose fitting so we can easily fit a variety of girls wth the same pattern. Then tie it to give the girls the slincky close look they want. That glissenette is beautiful for using but I think it mght be out of our price range being that we have to do costumes for 100 skater (only 5 of this type) and the Canadian site I have lists it for $18.00 a yard. OUCH!

Thanks so far for the advice.
