Brother issue - Not sure where to get help!

Hello!
I am new to machine-sewing and have encountered a problem with my Brother CS-80. It's making a terrible clicking sound when I try to sew and when the needle does get through the material it creates a tangled mess on the bobbin-side of the fabric. The machine does not indicate an error, though. I've tried using different types of thread, rethreading, turning the machine on/off, changing the needle. Can you help me? Thank you so much for your time.

It could be several things. The first thing I would do is thread the machine again...one more time. Check your manual and make sure that you are getting all the thread guides and in the right order. Also, when you thread it this time make sure your needle is up.

Go to the bobbin. Make sure that the bobbin is spooling from the correct direction. Most machines are pretty picky about both the direction of the bobbin and the tension disks being open when they are threaded. (My old 1530 will take the bobbin from either direction..go figure.) Make sure that your bobbin is correctly seated in the case and that it is properly closed. My newer machine won't even work with the bobbin door open, so make sure that it is closed too.

Try it again. If these things don't work, it may need a trip to the tech for some minor adjustments because your timing could be a little off.

If this is a new machine it may just be that the dealer failed to give it a test drive before you took it home. Most need a little adjusting when they are first out of the box so they'll sew at their best.

Not sure of what machine model you have but here is some basic info...

Is your needle inserted correctly? ie: is it in far enough? If it is hanging too low it will hit your bobbin case.
Is your bobbin and case inserted correctly, sometimes if you don't put the case in just right it comes loose and bangs around in its home, very bad. Also most machines are designed so that when you gently pull the bobbin thread that the bobbin should spin clockwise, some machines are fussier than others regarding this.
As well did you get the thread properly in all tension discs etc. oh yeah, is your needle new? Sometimes a bent etc needle will wreak havoc.
Another tip is to gently hold put a little tension on the two threads when you start to sew, you should hold them at about 10-11 o'clock.
If I have persistant probs like this I completely rethread and occasionally insert a new needle just to see.
good luck
Oh yes, check your tension (many a time I have gone to sew a seam and forget to reset my tension after gathering something) :nah:

Good points. Also, is the needle one that was recommended by Brother. Some needles are different sizes/lengths than others (esp. Singer needles.) When you start to sew, don't start on the very edge or off the edge of the fabric, start about one or two stitches onto the fabric. Sometimes this will also cause a nest.

Hi, I have the brother CS 8060. I have this same problem occasionally. It is usually one of 2 things. I either have to take out my cartridge that holds the spool of thread and re thread and reinsert into the machine or the bobbin has a small thread poking out from underneath that is tangling everything up (do you know what I mean, the start end is sticking out a bit or has looped over and is sticking out). I hope this helps. It took me a bit to figure out.

I love my brother products. My sewing machine is a Brother XL-6562 and serger is 1034D. I have had the same problem from time to time and I learned to check the tention of both the top and bottom bobbins, check I change the needle, also the top bobbin may not have been wound properly.

Good luck, hope you get this problem solved.
