The Sew What’s New Archive

This archived content is from Mary Wilkins’ sewing and quilting message board “Sew What’s New,” which was retired in August 2007. It is being provided by “Sew What’s Up,” which serves as the new home for many members of “Sew What’s New.”

I saw this on Pattern Review and thought a few might get a chuckle....

12 STEPS FOR SEW-ERS

1. We admitted we were powerless over fabric and patterns — that our stash had become unmanageable.

2. Came to believe that organization could restore us to sanity AND free up room for more fabric.

3. Made a decision to clean up the sewing space and put order to the piles.

4. Made a searching and fearless inventory of all our fabric and patterns—including the fabric under the bed, in the garage and hidden at the neighbors.

5. Admitted to ourselves and to other human beings the exact extent of our holdings.

6. Were entirely ready to remove all “What was I thinking” fabrics.

7. Humbly listed on Freecycle or donated to charity all of those orphans.

8. Made a list of all patterns we had sewn, and became willing to write reviews for them all.

9. Wrote reviews for these patterns wherever possible.

10. Continued to take inventory and when we bought more promptly added it to the list.

11. Sought classes to improve the quality of our sewing and our wardrobe, seeking knowledge and skills we could use and the patterns to carry them out.

12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of this web site, we tried to carry this message to new sew-ers, and to practice these principles in all of our acquisitions.
