I received my machine for Christmas from my hubby, isn't he a doll. However, I can't use it. Ugh. It was previously owned by his aunt who only used it 2 times. I have to use the online manual to figure anything out. I am trying to free motion quilt on it and I cannot get the tension correct! I have fiddled with everything. I have the embr. foot on and have the feed dogs dropped. What is next? The bobbin thread comes up through the bottom no matter what tension I use. Grrrrr. If I try to move the fabric the thread upper thread pulls the bobbin up and is not laying on the fabric. I have no idea how to explain this. LOL. Can anyone help me? I don't know where else to look for instruction. There is actually NO instruction about this in the manual. Thanks for your time. TTFN, Kelly What a wonderful life this is that I lead.

KellyJean, I don't know about the Brother PC 8500 but I was doing some free-motion quilting earlier today and had the same kind of problem where the bobbin thread was coming up and showing big loops on the top of my project. The problem for me was that the bobbin thread was not properly inserted in the drop-in bobbin holder. The thread had jumped out of the tension spring blades. Check that your bobbin is threaded properly e.g. caught in the tension blades for your machine. Here is a site with tips and info on free-motion quilting http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/cr_quilting_tips/article/0,,HGTV_3307_1377100,00.html Here are some other threads where free-motion quilting was discussed and I did post some links. http://swn-archive.sew-whats-up.com/t-17639.html&page=2&pp=15 http://swn-archive.sew-whats-up.com/t-16706.html TTFN from

I I have to use the online manual to figure anything out. [/FONT]I was just wondering...is the online manual that you are referring to from the www.sewforless.com (http://www.sewforless.com/index.php?category=269) web-site??? Just checking...but did you know that you can download it to your computer (File/Save As and save it to your computer) and then you can do whatever you want with it. Just open it when you need to refer to it, or print the entire contents (196 pages) or print just the pages you want. TTFN from

Kelly I have the same exact machine. I just love it. It is a workhorse and I never had that problem. I am wondering if you cleaned it really good under the plates. I do that often with the small brush that comes with it. I have sewn everything on this machine and tried the free motion quilting and have not had a single problem. It just sounds like the tension is off but I have never fiddled with the tension. It seems to adjust itself for me. Let us know how you do. Ria

Thank-you for your help with my machine. I found the user manual for it on the Brother site. I have it in favorites and just refer to it when I need it. I will check my bobbin and play more with the machine later on this afternoon. I hope you all have a great afternooon. Thanks a bunch. TTFN, Kelly What a wonderful life this is that I lead.
