I know I should know this but I don't follow patterns much so this was a new one to me. Thanks, Kathy |

There's a sewing dictionary here, with a link to a 'how-to' article. http://sewing.about.com/library/bl_def.htm Take care,

Hi Kathy, Grading is a good way to reduce bulk on seams......really good to do if the seam forms a corner or the seams will be enclosed. Basically you trim the seams to different widths with the seam lying closest to the garment left the widest. When you turn your garment to the right side, the seam lies flat with a lot less bulk! Hope this helps Westozmum Westozmum aka Laura from the Land Down Under

Thanks so much to both of you for help with the grading question. Glad I didn't try it on my own because I would have messed it up for sure. The link really help and I was able to better picture it and was only then able to get that "ah ha" moment. What can I say, heck, I have trouble the written word sometimes and need those pictures you know.. LOL.. I too am one of those people who took the lessons at 9, 10 years old and am now forty and had just started to sew again a year and a half ago but after making a mean set of curtains, a shower curtain and a bunch of dog bandana's was side tracked by cancer and then we moved. So I'm finally getting my groove on again so to speak.. LOL... Love hearing and learning more from you all... Kathy |
