hi

I just got a white 4400 embroidery machine. I would just like to use it for monogramming. I am pretty confident that I have threaded the machine and bobbin properly yet everytime I use it I get an E-13 error which my book says is broken thread. Ive tried skipping a few stiches ahead and also going backa few but it doesnt work and the thread seems to get stuck and pile up under my hoop. Im quite sure its user error but Im just not sure what to do. can anyone help? thanks

This actually happened to me when I first got my brother embroidery machine and although I was so sure I had it threaded right..in the end I did not..one tiny thing out of place and the thread breaks....or...you might try changing the needle...you never know..sometimes the eye of the needle is sharp and cuts the thread...also take a good close look at the spool and how it is unthreading to the needle...is it getting hung up somewhere?..I am so sure it is something minor...the thread piling up under the material sounds like a tension problem but I think if you get it threaded right this might correct itself. There are ladies on here that know so much more than I...I am sure they will stop by here...Good luck.....Ria

Ladies I don't know about your White machines, but I have a Singer CE 100 that will do the same thing ifyou don't get the top thread seated exactly in the thread sensors on the top and if the thread on your bobbin is not winding off in the correct direction and seated in the bobbin assembly thread guides. So, all that said, look carefuly at all of your thread guide/sensors on the top and check your manual to be sure that you have the bobbin in the bobbin assembly with the thread winding off in either a clockwise or counter clockwise motion. My CE 100 bobbin winds off in a counterclockwise motion. Once you've conquered those areas, you shouldn't have anymore broken thread codes flashing at you.

I was getting that error on my Bernina and I could never understand why as both threads were there and looked fine. Then I realized that the thread coming off the spool was twisting and looping and when I turned the thread around the other way (I have a horizontal thread holder) it comes off without twisting and no more errors.

According to my Janome dealer, the simple solution is to always have the pressure foot UP when you thread. This allows the tension to function properly. Of course, having the thread come off the spool properly is essential, also.

Good response dudenbabe. That is a must with any machine I am learning!

I"m willing to bet its a matter of improper threading... either of the upper thread or the bobbin... my experience is that thread nests ( a pile up of thread under your fabric) are generally experienced by folks who are new to embroidery.. I think most experienced embroiderers will tell you that they rarely have thread nests.... so take heart... the likelihood is that the more you practice... the fewer thread nests you'll have.... check your thread path... make sure you have your bobbin in the right way... and wathc your thread as its coming off the spool... make sure its not hanging up somewhere... good luck and keep us posted...
