Is done. I found some fabric in my stash that looked like Oxford and had stripes so he was happy with it. I have no idea what the fiber content is because I bought it several years ago on Walmarts mystery table. It washes like a dream. Only thing I don't like is I bought the interfacing for shirts and I think it is too stiff and I don't like the way it bubbles. I've never had problems like this before. I think the next one (if there is a next time) I'll use my regular interfacing and just use two layers.

I am planning on making work shrts for Dh. I was wondering what type of interfacing did you use.. a light weight or medium and brand? I bought some lightweight pre packaged for .97 cents Fusible Pellon interfacing to be used with light to medium weight fabrics. On the top, in red it says "Value pack 15x 3yards" the type I am going to make will be made out of Srubs cotton (a 50/50 poly/cotton blend) Button down shirt short sleeves and long with one pocket on the chest. I wish for a little heaver fabric then the broadcloth 65/35 blend that Wal-mart sells. I have a 65/35 poly/cotton blend Test fabric I am going to work up first. I don't have the pattern yet.. but I think I am going to use the Mc 2447 pattern. DB

I find lots of times the fusible interfacing bubbles and looks crappy after washing it. I have started using only knit fusible interfacing and I love it. I have a bit of sew in heavier weight for things like collars and cuffs where I want a bit more body.

The pattern I used is Simplicity 9469. It got rave reviews on Pattern Review and I see why. Very easy to put together. One of the reviewers said that she made work shirts for her father. The interfacing I used came on a bolt and was labeled for shirts. I'm even thinking about taking the collar and stand off at this point and redoing them because of the way this interfacing looks. I know it will be a chore but I like my projects to come out looking professonal. Good luck with your shirts and your search for fabric. There is very little out there for men in a cotton/poly blend that isn't lightweight.

Sorry that you have to take it out, what a pain. for big men there is very little patterns out on the market today which is why I am having a hard time finding a pattern. I wish I knew of a place online that sold big men patterns. :( I am also a memeber of PR I love the review system DB

I know what you are talking about Big Men patterns. The one I used goes to a 52 chest. I had to increase the neck and decrease the waist and arms since DH has a big neck and chest and no waist and arms. RTW look like tents on him. McCalls also has 4399 that goes to a XXXL. Couldn't find any reviews for it though so didn't use it. Good luck in your search.

Oh I know, the 4399 has everything I am looking for in a shirt pattern, But it doesn't have tails on the front and back. the pocket is what I am looking for, as well as the short and long sleeves. I guess I could take his old shirt and make a tails, I dont' know I am torn DB

McCall's has another nice shirt pattern, #4518, which is the pattern I used to make a shirt for my guy. It goes up to size XXL, which fits him perfectly. It does have a front pockets, and can be made with either short or long sleeves. It's like a retro Hawaii'n shirt, and I'm tempted to try to make the ladies' version for myself.
