That is an excellent price for thread..I attempted to place an order and when I was ready to check out I saw some errors (like I ordered some colors twice by mistake) but there was no way to edit the cart. so I logged out and emailed them. I have not yet received a reply

I don't know anything about this site so do not want this taken as an insinuation , acusation, or anything else derogatory about them or any specific site. Thread has a shelf life and there are bad dye lots of thread. When thread is getting old companies have the opportunity to purchase it for a fraction of the original price. Large chains often do this before a big 40-50 % off sale. If I were purchasing from someone that is selling close to or below wholesale cost I would start with a small order and check the quality before making a large purchase. Check how easily the thread breaks as well as the color consitancy.

Hi Tom...very wise advise....I can't wait to see if the thread is good..I ordered 11 spools....if bad I just will not order again and I will be sure to post it here to allert everyone....Most often I go by rule of thumb that....nothing is free...and beware of cheap....so...it remains to be seen....thanks much for your advice.....:) Ria

Hi Tom and Ria
I also placed an order and you may have a point...never thought of it
But one thing I did learn from some of my original purchase of isacord (2001) if it started breaking I put it in the refrigerator for a day and it is fine after that. I guess of course it would depend on how old the thread was. So I guess we will just have to wait and see

Why did you put it in the refrigerator? I'm just extremely curious. My grandmother used to put all kinds of strange things in the refrigerator (like raisins, flour, crayons), but never thread.

LOL..I am waiting for JJ's reply too....I heard of putting candles in the fridge and batteries but never thread..I know if I burn a candle and it gets all over the glass it is in...just pop the whole thing in the freezer and all the wax and candle come out clean....:).I am curious as to how it would make the thread stronger or give it a longer shelf life.....:) Ria

I was going to mention that trick Phyliss. I guess in my long windedness I forgot. I was actually taught to put it in the freezer over night . It gives back the strength to use it but it does not really restore it to original strength. It has something to do with restoring moisture to the "dry rot" which has never made since to me since I understand refridgeration to remove moisture, but I am not a refrideration person so I don't know. I just know that it works.

LOL that's right Tom, I actually read the hint on a sew news magazine or saw it on the internet..not sure. BUT I have tried it and it worked for me. It does have something to do with putting the moisture back in. If you need to use the thread right away you can put it in the freezer for half and hour or so but if you can wait you can just put it in the refrigerator for a day
My girfriend has a Tajami (sic spelling..) 15 needle industrial machine. Her dealer gave her a bunch of the big spools of Isacord and Fufu..when she went to use it it kept breaking she put it all in the fridge for 2 days and has not had any new problems with it.
So I guess my thought is, 'whatever works' :bluesmile :nah:
I am sure Tom is correct and it does not bring it back to its 'real' strength but I do know that the ones my girlfriend did are still working on her machine.
I have my 'extra' threads stored in a covered plastic box and the ones I use I made a spindle type holder and I cover them with a plastic bag (hard to explain but works for me) So far I've had no problems
ok that's all

WOOOHOOOO.!! I sent an email to John about the Isocord and here is his reply....I am so  happy...LOL

Hi Floria, (Ria)
Thank you for the notice of this. You can quote me as saying "This is absolutely the freshest brand new thread available on the market" "We receive 100's of new cones every day directly from the manufacturer" I would suggest to everyone on the sewing board to question why they have paid so much for thread all these years. Our everyday price for 5,000 meter cones of Isacord is $7.00. So you can see that our pricing for the 1,000 meter cones is right in line.

Best regards

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share with you my experience buying from International Machine Group. I would definitely recommend this company. It was a smooth and fast transaction. I found them online, called to ask about shipping information. I think the girl who assisted me was Nicole. She was very nice and helpful. I bought the whole set of 318 colors and the price is really good. They shipped the thread out to me the same day I paid with 2nd day delivery. I didn't even have time to worry about this transaction and I already received the threads!

Now my next problem is....how to store all these threads in a fashion that I can look for the right thread easily...hmmmm

wow Martini....wish I had been able to get all at the same time...I'll just go slowly.. Did you get any more of a discount for buying all at the same time??
I'm not being greedy..I am very pleased Ria notified us of this site. I'm just curious.
Did you go out and get those plastic drawers on wheels? I would think that would be a good way to store ALL the colors  I made myself some spindle stands but now I have 27 more threads coming so I will have to make another stand. Oh well I was kinda missing using my electric tools :bg:
Thanks for letting us know that Imachinegroup is actually a good safe company to order from

If you put them in number order they are close to color order also. The thing is that all the greenish yellows are together, the orangish yellows, etc. It took me a while to find the reason to their color system but it works and it is easier to find the colors if you pull them by number.

That is so good to hear that you loved their products Martini..They are such nice people to deal with.... I was thinking of maybe going for the whole set myself...What I did for storage was bought those plastic drawers that they sell at Wallmart and many other stores...I have them in my sewing room...I love the drawers because it keeps them clean and dust free...I have some problem with unravelling but so far it is not out of control so I guess I will attack that problem another time..I think the nets would work well...
JJ I am also excited and waiting for my pkg to arrive.....let me know when you get yours.....John has a color chart that we can download on his site...that will be so helpful...talk to you all later...:) Ria

THey have a snap and lock bottom so are they unraveling when you sew? I haven't had any problems with that, unless I leave loose thread when I thread the machine. I always make sure the bottom is is closed and the thread is wound when I thread the machine then as I thread it I don't have a problem. I do always stand it up though. It might be a problem if you lay it on the side. If that is the case and I couldn't find a standing spindle, I'd purchase a free standing spindle with the cast iron bottom (so they don't turn over) and I don't think you would have a problem. It is better for metalics anyway.

Hi Pam...most of my threads are marathon and they do not have snap bottoms...which ones have the snap bottoms...I do have some small red caps that go on the top that keep the threads from unravelling...I need to get more...No I never just lay them on their sides...I am so fussy with them..they all are upright and I do have a large spindle that holds 12 spools it has a heavy bottom..I love this thread stand...it is a blessing...the threads that I do not have the small red caps for the tops are the ones unravelling...but I do wind them up as well as I can before I put them back into the drawers...I just love this site and all you ladies because there is so much to learn...so much knowledge where others have more experience and of course the ones who have less can learn and we teach each other....thanks for the note.. I am curious as to what type threads you have....:) Ria
Oh my goodness...I am laughing my head off here and falling off my chair...I just went and checked and many of my spools have the click bottoms and I had no idea they had that...LOL...you made my day...gosh these were purchased at Joanne Fabrics and I love the snap bottoms..they are cool....
I hope you are laughing with me :) :whacky:

I'm glad you found out that they do. It is wonderful!!! The Isacord threads all have snap bottoms. Now if only Maxi Lock would do that because I have about a million Maxi Lock spools..ok, well, half a million...welll...a bunch!

 LOL ROFLOL
so funny the things you don't know you have .... So Ria have you 'fixed' all the threads ????? tooo funny just laughing with you...Actually the only reason I knew that Isacord had the snap bottom was it was the first and only thread I had when I first got my machine.
but, her is a trick...I do have some other threads .. name is Venus.. very inexpensive but I have never had a problem with them. anyway they did not have the snap bottom so I took my exacto knife and cut a tiny slice on the bottom rim . like the cut you see when you buy coats sewing threads... then I can secure the thread in that cut. works like a charm BUT :nervous: if you do it be very careful with the knife ...I did cut right through the spool of thread !!! had a little too much pressure and slipped so that almost 3/4 of the thread was cut. so I am very gentle now.
paroper, what kind of base does maxi lock have? hmmm but gee it would take a really long time to cut a slick in 1/2 million spools LOL :whacky:

That might work. One of these days when I'm in a "fixing" mood I'll give it a try. Thank you! The only advantage is that because the spools are so large, I sit them in the portable drawers from Wal Mart and they don't get knocked around like smaller spools...now that is where the REAL mess is in my house!

 ok between my exacto knife, my drill and my spindles LOL
anyway Pam I read on either this forum or one of the others....someone had the drawer set up from Walmart and put a thin board and put spindles in it That way the smaller spools were prevented from slipping around. Right now I don't have the drawer set up but since it would allow me to use my drill to make more :dave:  spindle thread holders :o))
my thread is supposed to be delivered to new Hampshire tomorrow. then my brother has to forward it to me , so I will have it the beginning of next week. Oh that means I have to get to Home Depot and get more wood for thread stands  Now I'm excited !!!

Thank you all you ladies for giving me so many great advices on storing the threads. When the threads arrived, they came in about 30 little boxes which has 10 threads each in it. I asked them to provide me the color thread chart. I re-organized the threads in the same order of that color chart. So now I have about 30 little boxes all coded but yeah, I am gonna go to get those plastic storage carts.

As for the price, I think it is all right to say it in a public forum.... it is under $700 including shipping before tax!!!! And the girl who assited me was Natalie, not Nicole... Here is the number I called 1800 742-5877. She gave me a discount for getting a whole set but I remember there are also discounts for getting a bunch at a time. They have the threads divided into 4 small sets and selling them in a discounted price. So check them out, ladies!

Here's another idea to keep threads neat ,tangle free & dust free. You can buy what is called thread wrap but it's much cheaper to make your own. Fast & super easy.I got the thin clear vinyl, cut it to the size of the spools of thread & wrap it around the thread. Sticks to itself. I have a large thread cabinet. Don't put your thread in the sun coming through the windows. It fades & rots thread. I also use the thread wraps on the serger thread & those are in clear cases made just for that size spool. I use the wraps even on the ones with the snap to hold the thread just to keep it dust free. Just another idea.

This is a good deal on threads,

Can the embroidery thread be used for garment sewing esp. when using poly fabrics

or is it like serger thread, 2 ply?

I've heard diverse opinions on that. However, the owner of Hinkletown (PA) Sewing says that Isacord in particular is an excellent poleyster thread and wonderful for garment sewing.

I just recieved my order from these people and I am so very very pleased...I cannot believe that what I was paying 7.00 for was only 2.79 a spool....I just wanted you all to know this is the only place I will be buying my supplies from. Fantastic prices and extremely fast service...... Ria

I don't know if it's good or bad  :whacky: but I have a lot of times used my Isacord embroidery thread for a sewing project, either clothes I was making for my Grand children to totes and bags I make. If I didn't have coats sewing thread I just went to my embroidery thread.

ria. .I'm glad your order came in. I'm so thrilled that you found that site. I too will only be getting at least my thread from them. oh and ok we won't talk about my glue gun LOL
