Hello everyone,

I just wanted to post and tell everyone that I am so excited!! I bought a house, signed all the paperwork Feb 10th and moved in that weekend!! The lady selling the house was very nice and allowed me to come into the house before the closing date to do some general cleaning and painting. It is so nice to be in a house of my own!! We were living with my in-laws and it was just getting too stressful. We had quite a bit of scrounging to do to get all the things we needed to live here, but we got the most important things, refrigerator, stove, washer and dryer, matresses and box springs. My husband and I had to sell or just get rid of a lot of things when we moved in because there was just no room for it. Anyway, even though money is a little tight we are much happier for being out on our own. Now if I can just get hubby his satellite so he'll quit whining about not being able to watch TV lol.

Congrats!!!!

If money is tight and you really need furniture and stuff and you don't mind second hand there are several Yahoo recycling groups where people give stuff away free rather than toss it or go through all the hastles of yardsales. Normally they are for your city or county just depending on how many people are involved.

Hey, CONGRATULATIONS on your new home! It's so exciting!! I had a house in Alabama, got divorced, later remarried and sold the house. I hate not having a yard! Hubby is military and had we known we'd be at Benning for 4 years (we leave in August) we'd bought a house here in Columbus. Originally we thought we'd be here 2 yrs so we rented an apartment. Then we only thought we'd be here a year more so we again, decided not to buy. We do have a very roomy apartment, but let's face it--apartments aren't the ideal living situation for a family. I LOVE LOVE LOVE having a nice yard, lots of flowers (especially now that Spring is approaching) and just "my space." I don't even mind mowing the yard. Our plans for leaving have changed a million times since getting original orders back in Nov (but for the BETTER) so I'm content to wait out our time and when the time is right, we'll buy. We had found a house here when I was pregnant (again thinking we'd be moving when the baby was 6 months old) that was 4 bedrooms with a pool in a nice neighborhood and probably would've been good rental property to have when we left but again, we thought we were leaving. Hindsight is 20/20 and things worked out OK for us. Sorry to ramble (having flashbacks of having my own house.) Congratulations again!! ENJOY!

Congrats on the new house !!! Tell your husband if he want's a dish for the t.v...get a BIG stainless bowl....have him stand on the roof and make him turn around till the picture is right and make him stand there...don't forget to throw up some wire so you can connect the t.v. and if it gets stormy, hand him a BIG BBQ fork to use as a 'ground' for the lightening...(if it hails...a collander makes a great helmet !!!)

Truly...I'm glad you got a house of your own...I know how it feels to live with in-laws, no matter how much you like people, they can get on your nerves..

Thanks everyone..I really do love having my own space. I can do what I want when I want and not have to worry about what anyone else thinks, except my husband, and he's pretty easy to get a long with as long as I don't leave fabric and craft stuff all over the place. Luckily I do have a room for nothing but sewing and crafts so he won't have to look at my 'creative chaos'.

Julie, I don't mind you rambling at all. I know what it feels like to live in an apartment and being limited on what you can and can't do there. I never was much into gardening until I moved here. I am attempting a veggie garden for the very first time. I started some Spaghetti Squash and some hot peppers a couple of days ago and I have quite a few squash already beginning to sprout. I always thought I had a black thumb, but I am getting very excited about actually being able to grow things!!

Chrys, thanks for the suggestions, I don't think hubby would be that desperate, besides, if he's up there holding the dish, then he wouldn't be able to watch, which completely defeats the point of having it. I watch t.v. occasionally, but I can find any number of other things to occupy my time. I still have some decorative painting to do in the kitchen, plus quite a few boxes still need to be unpacked, or I can sew, play on the computer, or just sit and do nothing. He is much harder to entertain as his only hobbies are video games, tv and occasionally playing basketball.

Thanks again everyone for the well wishes!! I really love this site!!

Congrats on your new house! I'm in an apt now but I sure miss having the privacy as well as a yard for some flowers and gardening! Your move will be worth it even if things are a little tight. Enjoy!

I'm so happy for you having your own place! How wonderful to be able to make it all your own, have fun fixing it up. A home doesn't need expensive furniture, pictures, etc, it just needs love! May your home always be filled with love!

Oh, Congrats on your new home. I got my first house 2 years ago, after living in rented houses all my life, then a single wide trailer for 12 years, with 4 cats and a Dalmation. I thought I was going to lose it in a divorce, but it looks like I may get to stay. I am so happy for you. I will be dead before this place is ever paid for, (I am now 54) but it is still my house. Living in tornado alley, (Alabama) a brick house is a darn sight better than a single wide, much as I loved it.
A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather with a certain set of attitudes. Hugh Downs
