Hi all, I hope one of you can help me. I just bought a White 4400 embroidery machine, even though I know nothing about embroidery. I was successful in installing the software to the laptop, but when I try to stitch the pattern they suggest in the owner's manual, the machine will stitch a few stitchs, then jam the needle into the needleplate with the most awful screeching noise. So far I have broken every needle that came with the machine, and am well on my way to breaking more. I did manage to slow the speed of the machine WAY DOWN, and was successful in stitching about half of the teddy bear. Then all of a sudden, it jammed again. The thread appears to be coming off the spool smoothly, and bobbin isn't tangled, I don't get error messages. HELP ME PLEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZE |

Sounds like you need to take that back to where you got it...NO embroidery machine should do that with it's built-in stitches...(thats why they're usually the easiest ones you have....they don't take up much memory in the machine). It may need an adjustment, but it sounds to me like a lemon...

here's a suggestion.... go to www.patternreview.com and read some reviews on your machine.... I don't have your machine... so I don't want to say anything... but I believe I may have heard some negative commentary on it. MO life is too short, not to explore

I'd be taking it back right away and getting either a replacement or another machine! It shouldn't be doing that unless there is something out of wack I think.

It sounds like it isn't threaded correctly.

Hi, I am from the UK, so I hope you do not mind me intruding on to your site - I must say it has been fascinating! Learned lots of tips this morning. Joni, if you do find out what was wrong with the machine, could you let me know, as my PE150 has the same problem. The machine was my sister's, and, after she passed away, her daughters very kindly gave me the machine, my sister only used it twice!! However, the machine worked fine for the first month, but now I get a message saying the thread is broken (which it isn't), and that awful screeching noise if I try to continue. I am stableizing,so I do not know what I am doing wrong. Do I have to have special needles I am using standard needles. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. I live on a limited budget and am afraid to take it the shop for repair. I feel as though I have let my dear sister down! Thank All! SusieC |

HI, I was getting a broken thread message on my Singer CE100 and the problem was the threading wasn't done correctly. You may want to check that. I had to go back through and had missed one little step in threading and it caused me a major headache!

Hi Joni, I did have the White 4400 for a short period of time. When I first got it, it worked somewhat okay, but I noticed the same thing, that it kept breaking needles. What I wound up doing, was slowing the speed down from 600 to about 300 - 400 stitches per minute, which seemed to work out tremendously. I also noticed that the tension on the machine was stitching incorrectly, and that one of the LCD numerals was not completely showing up. Bottom line, I called a dealer (since I had purchased mine through JO-Ann's), and asked him if he was having trouble w/ the machines being returned as a whole. He said yes, that there were a lot of bugs that White was trying to work out. His recommendation to me was that I return it and wait 6 months for the debugged model to be produced and out at dealers shops, etc. I did bring the machine back to Jo-Ann's. They didn't give me a problem, because I had the receipt. I figure I will wait until the end of the year to purchase another one. Other than that, I felt the software and the ease of connecting it to my laptop was amazing. It really is a nice machine w/ the newer functions. I wound up going back to my Brother PE-170. Good Luck! Hi Libby, I did in fact, take the White back to JoAnn's. I lost the eye of ONE needle to the inside of the machine, but when I picked it up to return it to the box, there were quite a number of things rattling around in the bottom of the machine, leading me to believe that my episode with it was not the only one. I have since purchased a Singer Futura CE-200, and am having the time of my life with it. I have learned that you should use embroidery needles with the machine, so have stocked up via Wal-Mart. Joni, glad you resolved your problem. I just spent a week with my old nemesis who is now head of White Sewing Machines (good place for her). The 4400 still has some problems. Embroidery needles are great but you might want to try the recommended Chromium or Titanium needles. They will last considerably longer and resist "sticky" stuff from gumming up your needle. They retail for about the same price as Schmetz Embroidery needles. We recommend the Titanium for all embroidery machines now. Have fun or don't do it, Tom

suzie... just wondered how you're making out with your 150? the 150 is an awesome little machine..... that's what I started out with... and it pained me deeply when I finally decided to sell her.... but she went to a good home (my friend's sister) so I know she's being well used and enjoyed. the 150 doesn't usually have too many problems... so my thought would be.... check and recheck your threading.... make absolutely sure you've followed the correct thread path.... also... check the bobbin area and make sure everything is nice and clean.... you mention that it was only used twice,.... but it could be dusty or linty in there if it sat for a while.... (remember when cleaning, not to use canned air, just the little brush that came with the machine) its pretty easy to take the bobbin out on the 150... so take it out and make sure everything is clean under there too...you'd be surprised how sometimes even the tiniest little bit of thread can cause you all kinds of difficulties.... oh... and make sure you are using embroidery needles.... the kind htat are flat sided on the back...and do keep us posted on your progress.... I too purchased the machine and had the same problem. It never worked and the needles broke. I sent it back to viking and they replaced it and it has worked great till yesterday when I got a E40 message. Had to Fed EX it back today. Hopefully it will be fixed. I really do like it.
