My DGD is living next to me and every week since she's been here she's found something for me to sew for her. First it was the poodle skirt and now it is a skirt the ones that the kids are wearing now that has electic in the waist and fit close to the stomach and then gather about 6 inches down, sort of like a cheer leader skirt. Well she's in a talent show on Friday and she came home Monday telling me I had to make her and two other little girls these skirts. So being the accomdating MawMaw I am that's what I've been doing this week. I was able to get 3 skirts out of 1 and 3/4 yards of denim 60" wide. I put lace around the bottom and embrioderied their initials with butterflies around the initals. They came out cute and I have one more to do but I'll be sure glad when she moves in a few weeks so I can get a rest. ROFL> Nahhhhh I love it.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Susie, that is so sweet of you, I'm positive that you were having the time of your life making those little skirts, and I know that those little girls are thrilled. Bless your great big wonderful heart!

It's now 1:30AM and I told my husband that I would be up all night sewing and I am going to finish the last one I'm afraid just in time to have coffee with him at 3:00AM. I hate doing things at the last minute so I'm glad it's all done and they will be ready for Friday in plenty of time. I did enjoy making them but if she brings me anything else..............well lets just say she might regret knowing I have a sewing machine. :nah: I love her but I have to have time to make the quilt for her new bed she has to give me a break sometimes. :re:

how very cute...did you take pictures? did you make the pattern up yourself? My GD does the same thing to me except I live with them...she will come into my room and ask if I will make her something 'today' I ask what and she says 'let me think' I'll go find some fabric from the fabric room first...then she will come back with whatever she has chosen and ask for a skirt or top or whatever LOL  I'm pretty good at sewing up an elastic waist skirt fast but I would like to try one like you just did. any hints or do I need to go get a pattern?

I am going to strangle this child before this school year is over!!!!!!!! She came home today telling me that if the skirts are too short they can't wear them. Now she is taking the skirts to school to get the teachers approval if they can wear them or not. If they are too short then I will add more lace to the bottom of the skirt to make them longer, they come one inch above the knee now. They will wear shorts under the skirts also so I don't know what the big deal is. I told her NOT to tell the teacher "My grandmother can add lace if they are too short". I told her not to say anything at all. Maybe the teacher will feel sorry for me for making all of them and give her a break if she thinks they are too short. I don't think they are. Well have to see. :bg:

sorry to hear that....did she tell them they were wearing shorts underneath?
When my daughter was growing up the 'rule' was 'if you kneel down. back straight and the hem touches the floor the length was ok' So basically the skirts always had to be just below the knee... I don't remember anything about if there were shorts. but I also don't remember ever making shorts to match the skirts when she was growing up. I do remember in the winter wearing pants under my skirts or dresses but they came off when we got to school !
Well extra lace will fix the length I am sure.

That was the rule when I was in school also but it had to be in the middle of the knee. We could wear leotards with our dresses but never shorts or pants to school. Now they can wear shorts or pants which is nice because I froze to death when it was cold because I hated wearing leotards and had to wear a shirt or dress.

The lace will fix it no matter how much longer it has to be but it's the thing that I thought I was finished and now maybe I'm not. :bluesad: Come to think of it I added 2 inches to this skirt before I started. The orginal pattern was shorter and I added two inches because she told me that last time I made her a skirt with this pattern it was too short after a few times wearing it so I made it two inches longer this time.

Susie, how nice of you to make all those skirts for your gd! I'm sure she if very appreciative and besides, that's what grandma's are for isn't it? I know my grandkids feel that way too and I'm always happy to accomodate as I know you are. Hopefully you don't have to do anything extra to the skirts. Would love to see pics if you take some!

Lyn I complain but I love every min of it and she knows I am. The only problem I've been having is I need to get things done around here like plant my gardens, decorate my new place, sleep............well you get the pic. Tues night she sang at the school board meeting, thurs is the PTC meeting she is singing and then Friday at the Nursing home the talent show, that's what she need the poodle skirt for also. On top of this I'm needing to hem pants for hubby and hem curtains for me and so on. My new neighbor bought me about 20 sweatshirts so I can put his logo on and I haven't started them yet. My other neighbor is learning to emboridery and I think I'm going to put her up to the machine and let her do those for him. :dave:

She took the skirts to school today and the teacher okayed them so they stay the way they are, Thank Heavens. They get to wear them tomorrow. Tonight I am going to start making some things for me. I'll let you know what when I figure that out for myself. LOL :nah:
