Hi! My name is Leigh. I am new to sewing and patterns and all that jazz. I bought a NEWLOOK kids! pattern at Wal-Mart yesterday, opened and had no idea where to cut. :nervous:

It is Bin 99 6578 Size A 1/2-4 if that helps any. I think I decided the first thing I need to do is actually find my measuring tape and measure my dd. After that though I am lost. Can anyone guide me?

Also if I cut out the size my dd is does that mean I can't use the rest of the sizes? Thanks so much for your help.

Confused,
Leigh

ETA: I measured my daughter and her chest is 19 1/2, her waist is 19 1/2 and her height is 33 inches. The chest and waist measurement made her a size 1 on the pattern and the height made her between 1 and 2.

There should be size markings on the pattern with arrows to let you know which line to cut on. Also the lines should be different - dashed, solid and so forth. As for which size to cut, take your daughters measurements and see which most fits the patter sizes on the back. Also you can cut the smaller size for the upper body and then use the length from another size. As for actually cutting on the lines of the size you decide you're making, I fold back the straight parts and then cut under the pattern for the other curved parts. Most people on the forum will trace their patterns off onto either interfacing or medical paper (bought by the roll) or something else that you can see through enough to make the marks. This is too time consuming for me and with practice you can do the underneath way! If the patterns are cheap enough - I sometimes will cut it out the way I want to make it now and get another one for the bigger sizes. I sew for 10 dgc and usually need all the sizes!
I don't know if this answers your question but that's how I do it.
