You put that over your feed dog teeth to keep them from feeding the fabric when you make buttonholes. Many newer machines do not drop the teeth anymore but they still needed a way to stop the fabric feed. |

OH! How is it supposed to fit over??? I will have to go try it I guess. So are the numbers for buttonhole sizes? Am I supposed to put feed dogs down when I make button holes???

Well, it does look like something for a button hole to me. I had a 1475 and it didn't come with one nor have I ever seen one before. I would think that if you used it like that you would hit the attachment with the needle during the stitching because I don't see anything to attach it to the machine bed. However, if you were to tell me that it was somehow used to help in the making of bound button holes, I think it might make perfect sense and it might actually be an optional accessory. The only thing is that as far as I can tell the numbers are going the wrong direction for that. Hmmmmmmm.................... Neither of my machines lowers the feed dogs to make a button hole. I know that my old Kenmore didn't because the feed dogs ate one of my button hole templates. I've never done it when using an attachment either. I'm just bumfuzzled. pam

Ok, but I still don't get how to use it - I must be having a huge air bubble moment.

Actually, that DOES make perfect sense. The feed dogs must be down or disabled to sew on a button. You may have a little fork looking foot for your machine, some are adjustable, some two prongs and some, like mine, have 3. You place the tines so they are on the outside of the button holes, or one across the middle too. That holds your button in place. The feed dogs must be down or disabled (part). Then you adjust your machine to zig zag back and forth between the button holes. If if it a 4 button hole button, you do first two (across or diagonal) and the the other 2. If you machine has a button to tie knots, you tie one at the beginning and one at the end. The professional button machines sew between 5-7 times each time they are started.

Yes that does make sense, and I have a button hole program on my machine too.
